About Artificial Intelligence In The Oil & Gas Industry (Aiogi)

Artificial Intelligence in the Oil & Gas Industry is a student group at the University of Alberta which can also be referred to by the acronym of AIOGI (pronounced eye-oh-gee). AIOGI serves to leverage the various Machine Learning Institutes funded by the Canadian Government in the $125 million Pan Canadian AI Strategy and provides a platform for students, academia and industry to facilitate discussions and /or pursue projects of how elements of Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence can be utilized to optimize processes in the Oil and Gas Industry. The purpose of this group is to increase the education and awareness of how businesses can structure their organizations to facilitate practices for machine learning techniques and how these techniques can be utilized in all upstream, midstream and downstream processes of the Oil and Gas Industry. Building on this initial goal, AIOGI also aims to foster a culture of collaboration across faculties within the University of Alberta, working collectively across barriers of technical communication to solve problems in a specified market. Furthermore, through such collaborations, AIOGI's long-term goals are to create a ‘digitally versatile' workforce to provide Canada a competitive advantage over some of its global competitors.
