WHO we are:
The Canadian Stuttering Association (CSA) is Canada's Association for people who stutter and their families. Our core purpose is to provide accurate information and an impartial forum to discuss treatment and management options. We are run entirely by the passion, energy and commitment of our volunteers and provide a website, information service and social media presence. We understand stuttering and bring our own experiences to the services we provide. CSA volunteers are mainly people who stutter whose diverse experiences and desire to reach out have brought us together.
WHAT we are:
The Canadian Stuttering Association is a registered charity with CRA and a not-for-profit corporation. We started as a network of support groups for people who stutter and now work mainly online to provide impartial information, publicity and support to people who stutter and their families and inform the wider public.
Brief History:
Originally established in 1991 as the Canadian Association for People Who Stutter (CAPS), in 2006 we became the Canadian Stuttering Association. National conferences have been held since the first conference in Banff in 1991. Conferences have also been held in Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton and Montreal.
What we have to offer as support for people who stutter:
The CSA enables people who stutter to create a community where you are accepted for who you are and where you are not alone. We work closely with (but independently from) speech and language pathologists and treatment centres to organize events. We also do public education through media interviews and information on our website about treatment options and day to day management of stuttering.
