As many of you know, Linh is not only our talented cook, but also our master craftsperson. For the Vietnamese Lunar New Year celebration at the Shaw Centre, Linh and her daughter Celina handmade some adorable sock snowmen to sell in order to fundraise additional funds for CVBF's upcoming project in Binh Thuan.
Linh is hoping to purchase 40+ day beds for the vulnerable special needs children here at Cơ Sở Khuyết Tật Tổ Ấm Huynh Đệ/ Day Learner Centre Compassionate House for ...the Disabled Children) which houses 125 special needs children age range from 3 years old to 30 years old in Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan province. There are 5 sisters and 11 undergraduate sisters volunteer their service here. This group of sisters provide special needs children with unconditional love and give the children opportunities to live a normal life like others and integrate into society with self-confidence. Due to their disabilities, these children are prone to accidentally relieving themselves while napping which reduces the number of clean mats available to all the children. Also, the children get sick more easily due to sleeping on the floor. The 40+ special day beds will be much easier and quicker to clean and none of them will have to sleep on the floor. These daybeds cost roughly about $15 each, so all the proceeds and donations that we receive from the snowmen sale and donations go directly to the children here.
Thank you friends for supporting Linh & Celina's efforsts, as they were able to raise $560 at the Lunar New Year's event.

Mai Am Tin Thac Orphanage is currently caring for 102 orphaned children between infancy and the age of nine, in Bao Loc Lam Dong. Recently, Sister Huong informed the Foundation that they were running short on all milk supplies, rice and warm clothing as the weather is getting cooler in the region. Our dedicated representative Hoang from Saigon traveled through the night to help deliver the supplies to the orphanage by the morning. We were able to see all the children waking u...p, eating breakfast and getting ready for school. We provided 64 cases of all sorts of milk, 21 bags of rice, 60 sets of warm clothing sets, 80+ set of toothpaste and toothbrush, 1 bag of girl clothes which I sent back from Canada, 12 bags of seasoning, 3 cans of floor cleaning solutions, snacks bags for all the children. All the children here are receiving great, diligent care from the sisters who work there. We are happy to see the children are well taken care and very well-mannered.

As you know, our Foundation has been helping Trung Tam Huong Duong since 2014. It is an orphanage that supports poor students who have lost one or both parents. Currently, there are over 50 students at the Elementary and Junior High levels under their care. it was wonderful that Rob was able to join Mr. Quang and Ms Phung as we delivered more basic essentials to the facility. It was also a blessing to have Rob be there to hand out the first annual Nguyen Quang Viet Scholarships to seven of these students to help them continue on with the education.

Recently, 22 underprivileged students from Ca Mau received scholarships from CVBF. It was a very special day because the scholarships were made possible in part by the students of University of Toronto Scarborough Vietnamese Association (UTSVA). All of last year, these wonderful Canadian youths fundraised through various school activities to help provide funds for these poor students in Vietnam continue with their education. Dr. Man was on hand to hand out the funds.

Our wonderful volunteers Rob, Quang and Ms Phung making deliveries of basic supplies to Mai Am Thien Duyen. Rob was very moved by the lives of these orphans and disabled children who have been under the loving care of the director, Ms Cam, for many years. We are so grateful to Rob for helping our foundation help these children.

This year, in collaboration with the Vietnamese Goodwill Scholarship Program (VGSP), our Foundation is helping provide scholarships to four underprivileged university students. Two of them --Duyen, a first yr Agriculture student, and Huyen, a third year Finance student -- reside in HCM and our wonderful representatives Mr. Rob Bernshaw and Yen were able to meet them and award the scholarships at a special ceremony. Meanwhile, in Can Tho, we were fortunate to have Mr. Bill Harany, along with Professor Hien, represent us to award a scholarship to Lieu, a third year Food Technology student. And in Da Nang, Mr & Mrs Le awarded a scholarship to Long, a second yr Software Technology student.

Our team Hoang, Tuan and Lien were able to deliver 800+ honeycomb shoes for the Khau Vai Ethnic Boarding Primary and Junior High School. We also brought in 100 new sleep bed mats for the children to replace their old, torn ones.

Last year, we were able to build a new Po Ngan C school (to replace a dilapidated one) for the children in the northern mountainous region of Ha Giang. This past week, our dedicated volunteers Hoang and Tuan travelled the extra miles back to the school on motorbikes (a 3-hr ride) to visit the children. The team also brought warm jackets, boots, honeycomb shoes, milk, cookies and treats for the children. It was wonderful seeing the children so happy and full of joy with these gifts. The classrooms are clean and bright and well-used for learning. Thank you again to our supporters who have made it a better place for these beautiful children by giving them opportunities for an education in a safe school setting.

Lop Hoc Tinh Thuong Dong Nai, the school we had helped renovate this year, submitted an urgent request for help with a well that had served them for the past 20 years. Recently, the well began to run dry, even in the rainy season, because it is a very shallowly-dug well (about 10m). The students were advised not to use the school bathrooms or they must carry water from neighboring houses which are about 50m - 70m away for their own usage. The school hoped to drill a new water well, and with your support, we -- with the dedication of our volunteer Tien -- were able to organize the drilling of a new well with a depth of 30-40m. After some delays from hitting rocks, we were finally successful in bringing fresh water to the school!

We remain in awe of this amazing young man -- Daniel Ta -- who won $1170 in the 50/50 at our 6th Annual Fundraiser, then turned around and donated the funds right back to our foundation! How wonderful is that? We look forward to honouring all our friends and sponsors' kindness and generosity in our continued effort to help give hope and opportunities to underprivileged children. Please visit some of these businesses and thank them personally for supporting the Children of Vietnam Benevolent Foundation.

We didn't think we could pull it off this weekend, but we did!! Together, we raised over $50,000 to help impoverished children in Vietnam, Canada and around the world. To top it off, we had Senator Ngo Thanh Hai join us as an honoured guest.
The evening was a success because of so many young and dedicated talents from the Chua Phat Quang congregation (Michelle Dang, Lily Dang), the Vietnamese Student Association (Minh-Thu Ta), the Vietnamese Student Union in Edmonton (Catheri...ne Hồ, and the McEwan University Vietnamese Student Alliance, the Truong Lac Hong school (Trudie Aberdeen), and the young musicians and petite vocalist (K Van Phan). And we so loved the many kids in their Halloween costumes, while a handful of brave adults outshone the rest of us.
Thank you again to all the businesses and friends who donated items for our auction and the guests who bid on these items. We can't thank Nick Thai and Angela Le enough for donating their Florida condo for raffling. And many more thanks to all the friends who travelled from afar to come to our dinner and the many friends who were with us in spirit.
And of course, the star of the evening was our amazingly witty and beautiful MC Dr. Cecile Phan. Many thanks also to our wonderful photograher Son Ton.
With deepest gratitude, Nhung Tran-Davies, Linh K. Truong, Huynh Anh Mai, Shanni Chi, Michelle Ngo, Quynh X Pham, Grant Davies, Hang Bich Pham, Dong Phan, Thao Choi, Lorraine McCarthy, Gabby Quach, Cham B. Sareen, Susan Do, Justine Dien

It's so wonderful to see how our foundation has been able to help 43 children with cleft lips/hypospadias get the necessary repair they need to continue living a healthy life. The before and after photos are amazing. Thank you, dear friends, for being a part of this! The surgery mission in Da Nang was organized by the Smiles of Compassion organization from Calgary.
