Common Ground Community Cafe

About Common Ground Community Cafe

Common Ground Alberta Community Cafe is a not-for-profit, volunteer run, community coffeehouse.

Common Ground Community Cafe Description

Ian and Eileen Edwards, pastors in the Moravian Church, originally moved here in part, to start a new church. They quickly realized that Sherwood Park has lots of churches but lacks places for community to form, gather, and connect. Instead of starting a church they decided to open a community coffeehouse.

Will this be a church? No. It will be a non-profit business and a service to the community.
What will it look like? Some possibilities we've dreamed of include:

work of local artists and artisans on display and for sale

empowering volunteer service opportunities for someone who is unable to work due to disability

open mic nights - opportunities for poets and musicians to express themselves

moms or dads with their little ones getting a respite for some adult conversation in a place where their children are welcome

dreams of community projects getting off the ground as like minded people find each other

opportunities to consider some of the big questions of life and community and to look at what better might look like where we live.

User

Wonderful place run by volunteers who genuinely live what they do. The decor is so warm and comforting, with big windows to let in loads of natural light, reclaimed barnboard tables and comfy chairs. Even a shelf with games!

I'm sad that is quite a drive from my house, but if you are in the Sherwood Park area, you need to stop in for one of their specially coffees and home baked goodies!

User

While enjoying my borscht this afternoon (Thanks Home on the Range!), I watched while the staff behind the counter worked together to make customers happy. Jen, while picking up dirty dishes from the tables, stopped to chat with many of the people.Great place to connect with people. I'm leaving with my body and soul satisfied.

User

What a wonderful environment with absolutely wonderful food! I'm so thankful that this is my neighbourhood coffee shop :)

User

Very nice place :) pleasant staff, really good dill pickle soup yummy thank you

User

This place...wow. Where has it been all my life! Decadent food and beverages with excellent service and environment to go with it, a real gem right here in Sherwood Park that you HAVE to visit

User

This is pretty much my favorite place in Sherwood Park. The volunteers are wonderful and the coffee is excellent. A great place to study, hang out with friends, or catch some music on open mic night. I always enjoy looking at the artwall too.

User

Really great atmosphere and reasonable prices.

I love that it’s volunteer run. A great place for teens to get work experience or anyone needing something to do.

User

It's my favourite place to go with friends to catch up due to its friendly atmosphere. One of the things I like is that the music isn't so loud that you have to shout in order to hear each other like some places. Also their London Fogs are the best

User

It really is a community --- this morning I was having a rough morning and one of the other patrons told me I looked beautiful ️ I almost cried because I am about to get my head shaved as part of can$3r treatment. She hugged me and said she beat can$3r herself and that though it's hard I can too! What an amazing moment at a special cafe! life is good and community is important

User

I love this place! The business model of giving back the community is a wonderful idea, and I'm excited to see how this cafe is able to do that as it grows. Otherwise, I love coming here on a lunch break. The coffee/lattes are delicious, the volunteers are super friendly, and it's a great atmosphere.

User

I love that it is run by volunteers and have local ebtertinment and there London gigs are to die for

User

I love Common Ground, my coffee group has been meeting there for a year and they are always lovely to us.

User

Homey cafe, but also love the big windows with lots of natural light. Enjoyed a fabulous quiche for lunch, nice muffin and good coffee. Great spot to sit and read, and it's nice to know they're community minded.

User

Great experience here today with my sister!! Great soup and biscuit and Apple cider was amazing. Will definitely come back to see the open Mic night as well :)

User

User

Friendly, inviting, great food and beverages. Lots of cool artwork and crafts to look at (and maybe buy). An unending (well almost) supply of competent volunteers. Open Mic nights are always great.

User

Common ground cafe was so cute inside! The food was great and but the service was awesome! I will definitely come back

User

Carol made us feel right at home. We will definitely return. And the Dill Pickle soup.... delicious!

User
