Dunluce Community League

Located in Castle Downs in North Edmonton, Dunluce Community League offers a wide selection of sports and other social programs for all ages.

HISTORY

The Dunluce Community league began when four concerned citizens (later known as the Warwick Residents Association) expressed their concern over the planned development of a mobile home park situated between 153rd Ave. and 160th Ave. east of 127th St. They wanted to have some input into the design, construction and maintenance of the Park to better integrate the park ( later known as Castle Village and now used by the City of Edmonton as a model park ) into the Community. Up to this point, the residents of Dunluce were part of the Caernarvon Community League and classified as associate members which meant that they had the use of Caernarvon facilities but had no voting rights. Approximately 20 residents of Dunluce attended a meeting to discuss forming the Dunluce Community League. Our league was officially founded September 26th, 1978 . Bylaws were executed on December 5th, 1978 . The first General Meeting of the League was held at Lorelei Elementary School on December 5th, 1978 .


BEHIND THE NAME "DUNLUCE"

The area Developer decided to name each neighbourhood in Castle Downs after famous European castles. DUNLUCE was named after an Irish castle located on the northern coast of Ireland . It was built by Richard de Burgo, Earl of Ulster and featured a 16th Century gatehouse with Franco-Scottish corbelled turrets. It is one of the most spectacular situated castles in Ireland built on a rocky promontory jutting into the sea. The name 'DUNLUCE ' was adopted by City of Edmonton Council as submitted on April 30th, 1973 .

The Dunluce Community includes the following area within its boundaries. 153rd avenue north to 167th avenue and from 127th street east to Castle Downs Road and 112th street.
