Public Reception Thursday September 6 at 7PM Free Admission, refreshments, cash bar Music by Lyle Rebbeck and Roy Martens
... Visions of the Hunt: Visions of the Hunt presents powerful and intriguing imagery of animals and people in modern and contemporary artwork from the Prairies in all media that touch on the themes ŌĆō and sometimes controversial issues ŌĆō around the practice of hunting. The exhibition includes contemporary Indigenous artists Brittney and Richelle Bear HatŌĆÖs installation about their familyŌĆÖs traditions, Little Cree Women (Sisters, Secrets & Stories) and Adrian StimsonŌĆÖs ironic Post Modern Bison; Paul FreemanŌĆÖs astonishing, life-size stags in ItŌĆÖs Only Natural, Marianne CorlissŌĆÖ startling and sensuous fur portraits of Louis XIV and Queen Elizabeth II, and a suite of delicate historical linocut prints by Illingworth Kerr which are informed by his trapperŌĆÖs knowledge of animals; amongst a host of other works by predominantly Alberta artists.
Joan van Belkum: A Retrospective from the Collection: This exhibition features works acquired directly from Joan van Belkum (1923 ŌĆō 2014) and generous donations from her estate. Together they describe the trajectory of her entire practice, from the rich abstractions of the early 1960s to her open, gestural, mid-career landscapes and the lush, impressionistic works she painted until as late as 2013.

Straight off of a summer playing with Sugarland and a fall travelling around the country with Keith Urban, the Esplanade is proud to welcome AlbertaŌĆÖs own Lindsay Ell on November 2.
Coming from a family with deep musical roots, the Stoney Creek RecordsŌĆÖ artist started playing piano and guitar at a very early age. "I learned how to play guitar traveling to country-bluegrass camps with my dad, and knew right from the beginning of my strong passion for country music." Her first ...full length country album, The Project debuted at No. 1 on the US Current Country Albums chart.
Starting on piano at six, guitar at eight and singing in her church youth group at 10 ("the most forgiving audience ever"), The 24-year-old Calgary native was discovered at 13 by BTO and The Guess Who's Randy Bachman. "Randy learned guitar from master jazz guitarist Lenny Breau, so I dove head-first into this world of blues, jazz and rock guitar ŌĆō learning all these different solos, switching radio stations and trying to get an idea of where all those techniques come from. I was listening to Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Clapton, Derek Trucks and all those incredible guitar players.ŌĆØ
Because it is rare, she knows her six-string prowess is not the only focal point, but an accent to her vision as an artist. "There aren't a lot of girls who play electric lead guitar, and it can be a defining thing," she says. First and foremost, I want people to hear me and understand my voice as a country music recording artist. When they come see me, I'd love it if they were impressed at my guitar and piano playing. But by that point, hopefully they understand the artist behind it all has a lot of different sides to her music." Straight off of a summer playing with Sugarland and a fall travelling around the country with Keith Urban, the Esplanade is proud to welcome AlbertaŌĆÖs own Lindsay Ell on November 2.

We held our wedding and our reception at the Esplanade, and could not have asked for better service or had a better venue. I was extremely blown away, and my now hubby and I are trying to think of what else we could possibly use this space for. Thank you to all the staff that made our special day perfect!

User

This is a fantastic venue! I've been to a number of concerts and events here, most recently two artists/bands for Medicine Hat Jazz Fest. I've performed here as well and it was fantastic staff and excellent sound. There are also other smaller music/performance spaces in the building and a rooftop terrace as well. The art gallery is fun to check out, with part being changing exhibits. Our son also takes art lessons here too, so we've literally been in this fantastic building 4x this week!!!

Recently went to the mini kids pop concert! I brought my son and his friend, the friend found the concert very loud, so we went for a bathroom break, a Esplanade employee asked how we were enjoying the show and when i said it was too loud for the friend, they offered him ear protection!! Thank u so much for that, we all went back and enjoyed the show!!!

Very intimate setting and accoustic !! Loved it !! However me and some other attendees came out to there cars having been broke into, and items stole, and items rifled through :( She had her cell phone stolen ! Doors had been locked and phone not in site !! Highly recommend CCTV cameras in the parking lot! Paul from Esplanade , along with Terri Clark, and Riley Madison did make this crying lil ones night by coming out with a huge Terri Clark autographed poster !! Will be back but maybe security patrols of the parking lot ! Thank You Jonathon

Beautiful and modern facility that is the perfect place to see any performance.

User

Absolutely Loved George Canyon!! My husband and I both had a great evening. I have been to many shows at the Esplanade thru the years and the acoustics in the theatre are wonderful every single time. It's small enough in the theatre that it feels very intimate.

Need to add some type of food item besides jalape├▒o beef jerky to the menu. Just so a person can have a choice.

User

Melissa sure can play those instruments! I never seen so many guitars on stage as she played, plus the harmonica and drums.

User

Loved the Colin James show!! However, found the sound system to be a little too loud for that venue and tinny sounding. Overall though a great experience once again. So glad we have a smaller intimate theatre for these performing artists.

User

Expensive as hell. Nice place to have dance recitals in. Could've been place somewhere where they could've made more seating.

User

Really enjoyed the BoxMasters on Saturday night-great show! However, was not impressed with paying for two drink glasses. Two thirds into the concert, we decided to have another beverage but was told the bar was closed because there was only about a half hour left in the concert. Really wasn't impressed.

User

Great venue for shows, they need to loosen up though when it comes to strict rules. Even though they sell soda right outside the theatre door, you can't take it in without going downstairs and transferring it into a paper cup. When I go to a show I just want to relax, not worry about how I'm going to get my drinks inside. Have seen some great concerts there, staff just needs to lighten up a tad in my opinion.
