So far very good experiences. Had to exchange my camera two times because of small defects, but wasn't a problem with the staff. Very friendly.

I went to trade Olympus E-p5 with Em1 which has comfortable big grip. I have big hand. Of course I paid the difference. Steve was very helpful and gave me a great deal. He even cleaned the sensor. 90 day warranty on used camera ? That made me even happier. Highly recommended !

This place has everything related to photography from bits and pieces to very high end equipment. Good service. Get you passport photo here in 2 minutes.

Went shopping for some camera accessories (tripod, filter, shutter remote). Was assisted by an mature fellow with greying hair who spent a lot of time with me, went to the back to get me things and generally gave very good service. Left with the wrong size UV filter, but then again, I didn't have the camera with me and it is an older model, so no fault of the salesman I think.

Went to trade in a camera with my boyfriend today, the lady with short hair at the front was extremely rude. Offered a horrible trade in price for his camera and proceeded to announce to the very nice gentlemen working with us "not to give us any bonuses". Guess she didn't want our business. We probably wont be coming back but if we do we will be sure to steer clear of her.

Went back, spoke with a new lady, who was VERY nice and gave us a very fair trade in deal. still only 3 stars because service is inconsistent depending on who you deal with. (i will say most staff are really nice though)

Bad place for film development. Almost never get called when my rolls of film are ready for pickup, and the results can be quite poor. I like the location but I'll happily drive all the way to DC photo labs for some good service

I have been to McBains' for years now and only once have I ever received what I would call friendly service. I've spent thousands on camera equipment at this store, but no longer will I return.
The bottom line is when I call in (or visit the store) with questions on whether they have certain items I am always met with a cold and even sometimes angry voice on the other line. As if me calling is causing them hassle.
On the very last such occurrence I was inquiring about a filter and was rudely interrupted with the sales associated asking "What size? What SIZE?!" when I finished telling him what I was looking for, size and brand of the filter he put me on hold without warning.
When he finally returned to the call he told me they could order what I wanted in and it would cost over $400. It wasn't even for the brand I had asked for nor did he offer any assistance in the manner of saying they could order other brands.
Ordered what I wanted on Amazon for $70CND. I'm officially done shopping at McBains.

Great place with everything photographic. End to end solutions. They also have classes for first time camera owners and advanced classes as well.

Great staff. Friendly and knowledgeable. Competitive Canadian prices. Bought a lens from here. Sadly didn't live to expectations so I returned it hassle free. This gets 5 stars in my book. Been a customer since 2003.
