Dear MEGSA members,
We are delighted to inform you about the upcoming Movie Night which is The PHD Movie 2 which is going to be screened on Jan. 22nd (Friday) at 5:00 pm in MEC E 2-3. This movie which is a comic movie about graduate life, has been released very recently. Since this is Friday evening, therefore, there wouldn't rush to go home as we guess!! You can watch the trailer of the movie by following this link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yb2y_a7hL 5M
... And of course this is just not the movie show, we will get a chance to meet with our graduate colleagues to chat and pass a wonderful evening together. There will be Pizza & pops, popcorns, etc. as refreshments to make our movie night more enjoyable. Don’t miss it!! This event is for you and we hope your presence will make the event successful, and it will also inspire us to show your favorite movies in the following months.
Thanks in advance and looking forward to see you during the movie night.

Title - Molecular Simulation of DNA Nucleotide-Carbon Nanotube Hybrids
Abstract DNA-carbon nanotube (CNT) nanohybrids have attracted much attention in recent years due to their many potential applications, for instance in cancer detection, purification and separation of CNTs, and nanoelectronics.
... In this talk, the interaction of DNA building blocks (nucleobases and nucleotides) with CNTs will be explored using atomistic classical and quantum mechanical simulations. Depending on the size and complexity of the problem, a pure quantum mechanics (QM), a mixed quantum mechanics and molecular mechanics (QM:MM) approach, or a classical molecular dynamics (MD) is employed. Our results indicate that properties of DNA nucleotide-CNT hybrids (e.g., binding energy, electrostatic potential, and charge transfer) strongly depend on the type of nucleotide and CNT. This series of simulations, at different scales, not only allow us to study the properties of the hybrids, but also provide useful information on how future simulations can be improved to enhance accuracy of results.
