Rylan Stein, a beautiful soul, passed away on June 22nd. On Friday, March 1st, the Stein family and art therapist Heidi Willmer are proud to present Rylan’s Memorial Art Show at the Library on the day that would have been his 23rd birthday.
Rylan was a passionate artist, whose work showcases a unique process with plastercast and paint. Rylan found a way to express himself through the art, often relaxing into a meditative state while he was painting with soft, fluid strokes over the canvases. This was incredible to witness, as Rylan’s movements tended to be restricted by Cerebral Palsy. Making art allowed Rylan to be free, and gives us a chance to see him, and remember him, for who he truly was.
Join us to celebrate Rylan's life through his art during this very special artist reception.

The recent announcement of a Supervised Consumption Site in our community has been the topic of much discussion lately. In order to dispel some myths and provide education about the current overdose crisis, we have partnered with several organizations to provide a three-part public information session.
This series, called 'The Overdose Crisis: Our Community's Response' will present information on the ways that local agencies are responding to the overdose crisis. Each sessio...n will feature different speakers describing the four pillars of response: prevention, harm reduction, enforcement and treatment. Training in Naloxone overdose treatment will be available at each session.
🔹 Monday, March 4 - Part One: Overview In this first session, Corey Ranger, Clinical Lead at Safelink - HIV Community Link will provide an overview of the overdose crisis and the four pillars response - prevention, harm reduction, enforcement and treatment. Kym Porter will provide the perspective of one personally affected by the crisis.
🔹 Monday, March 11 - Part Two: Prevention and Enforcement In the second session, Taneil Zanidean from Alberta Health Services, Layne Gosling from McMan Community Services and Christa Schmidt from Medicine Hat Drug Coalition will speak on prevention through health promotion and awareness. Constable Travis Funk from Medicine Hat Police Services will speak on enforcement.
🔹 Monday, March 18 - Part Three: Treatment and Harm Reduction In the third session, Natalie Mason from Medicine Hat Addictions Clinic will describe treatment strategies and options. Rikki Fryatt from Medicine Hat Recovery Centre will explain harm reduction's role in treatment.
Space in the Library Theatre is limited, please arrive early to guarantee a seat. For those who cannot make it to the presentations, we will be filming the sessions in their entirety - be sure to follow the Library's Facebook page to be notified when the videos are available.

Hope you had a great Valentine’s Day, Library Lovers!💘
Today on Valentine's Day, #mhplrecommends a new twist on an old love story: 'Unmarriageable' by Soniah Kamal. In this retelling of Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice' set in modern-day Pakistan, the five Binat sisters and their marriage-obsessed mother navigate a world where money trumps morality and double standards rule the day. Borrow this, or another great love story to keep you company today: https://goo.gl/PPxMg9.💕
What a great night of Aboriginal Culture at the Library tonight!
THANK YOU🙏 to Dakota Brant for organizing such a wonderful cultural activity! We hope to see many of you back here soon for Miywasin’s Healing & Reconciliation activities near the end of this month.
P.S., Check our story for a pretty impressive entrance from dignitaries and the Royal Canadian Legion.👌
We're rolling out the red carpet for you, Hatters! (literally... we're renting a red carpet for this event).🤩

❗️We need your support❗️ Last night we shared with our Lovin’ the Library guests that our 2019 budget has been reduced by $87,000.
Our funding comes from multiple sources, two of which were reduced significantly this year.
... During last night’s event we shared a vision of what we could do for our library with fundraised/donated money. We’ll share that with you a bit later on, but for now we have one simple ask: Get a library card! Tell your friends to get a library card. Tell your neighbours to get a library card. Help us show our funders that this community supports their library. Vote YES for your public library!
Thank you.❤️

Reminder Library Lovers: Tonight is our Lovin’ the Library event. Our invited guests will spend the evening with us to hear about our vision for the future and our fundraising goals (and they’ll enjoy a few cocktails and some tasty desserts, too). After tonight’s event, we’ll share our vision for the future with all of you - so stay tuned! ❤️❤️❤️ NOTE: The Library will close at 4:30pm today to help us get ready.
