Helping to get locally grown fruit in the hands, mouths, and minds of Edmonton's citizen's!
Ofre: Operation Fruit Rescue Edmonton Description
OFRE began in 2009, and is run by dedicated volunteers.
OFRE strives to connect people who have fruit on private property, such as backyards and front yards with people who are willing to pick it. A lot of varieties of fruit are grown locally and often go to waste.
The fruit picked by OFRE volunteers: is distributed in a 1 /4 system with 1 /4 going to the Edmonton Foodbank or other local organization, 1 /4 with the fruit owner, and 1 /4 to the fruit pickers, and the last quarter going to OFRE for processing into jams, jellies, cider, and more!
OFRE helps redistribute fruit within communities, raises awareness about food security, and builds community by bringing people together.
