One Smart Cookie K9 Services Inc. Description
One Smart Cookie Canine & Companion Training Services utilizes Positive Reinforcement to teach, motivate and address problem behaviors. Because this is a team effort between the dog and their human companion, to achieve lasting results we encourage Relationship-building exercises. We also highly recommend including a fun physical component such as Agility-based training or Treiball as well as providing a variety of mental stimulation games, puzzles, or activities like nose-work or 'Find It'. Obedience Training combined with Activity and Mental Stimulation makes for a very successful formula and can be fun for everyone in the household. Andrea Davis is the founder of One Smart Cookie Canine & Companion Training Services and one of Canada's FIRST K9 FIT CLUB Licensees. Training services are offered in-home and group classes. Her goal is to help dogs stay in their families by providing quality, science-based tools and training to clients. The #1 reason dogs are surrendered to a shelter is due to behavior and the lack of skills and understanding from the pet parents. Andrea invests much time and effort with a variety of animal rescues and shelters. She is also the Volunteer Coordinator at Klassic Kennels and works with many of the animals in a variety of ways. Andrea is continuously looking for new ways to accommodate more canines and their human companions while continuing to provide quality service and helping to meet the needs of individual clients.
One Smart Cookie Canine & Companion Training Services' name was inspired one of her dogs, Cookie who is a 5 year old blue heeler /whippet mix - more about Cookie later. . . It is also a play on words being that we can use a 'cookie' in a smart way; to positively reinforce behaviors we want to encourage in our dogs. + R training is motivating to the dog, it builds trust and a strong bond between the dog and their human companion; it is not dominance based and therefore training is not stressful, but actually fun! Hence 'One Smart Cookie'.

If you guessed that there are no barriers between LILY and COOKIE, you would be correct. Baby steps... I don’t fully trust them to be wandering around on their own as any trigger or excitement could turn into a major setback. With LILY’s medical issues, I am simply not willing to take the chance. All that being said, we have put so much effort into helping these two girls become ...comfortable sharing space with barriers. Not that long ago we started walking them together again where they would sniff each other without tension. I started moving one to another room, crate or X-pen without having the other totally secured by using our practiced impulse control and STAY. My husband informed me on his last trip home that he had them out together for a short while. Baby steps, but massive progress. It’s worth our while to put in the tedious effort and practice patience. It’s been YEARS friends, but it can be done.

Check out K9 FIT CLUB - Red Deer for the earlier videos (this is the most difficult progression so far) I can do one or two more progressions with COOKIE, but not with LOKI at the same time. LOKI is also able to wait with kibble on his paws, but not with the distractions of me doing my thing and with COOKIE close by.
I love the setting and atmosphere, Andrea is so dedicated and passionate about what she does! Lucy and I have loved working with her!
Hugo and I attend K9 fitness twice a week and we love it! It's physically and mentally challenging for both trainer and dog. Andrea is great and is always changing things up to make every class interesting and fun!
