Rio Alto Authentic Mexican Food

So good. This is my first 5* review, I think. We were spending the night in High River and neither my wife nor I were familiar with town. Found Rio Alto on Yelp! and gave it a try based on the positive reviews. So glad we did. I had an enchilada platter with rice and beans. Wife had the 'Aztec Lasagna'. We shared our meals and both were beyond thrilled with both plates. Service was fast and friendly. We were not drinking but the place has a decent selection of Mexican beers and tequilas as you might expect.

Food was just amazing. Can't recommend enough.

After hearing mixed reviews we thought we would give it a try, safe to say we were disappointed as per the following remarks:

- There were only 4 other patrons in the restaurant, yet it took over 20 minutes to get a few waters.
- A couple of us ordered margaritas and they tasted like water.
- We shared one of the platters and while there was enough food for the three of us, there was maybe a tablespoon of dip for approximately 8-10 pieces (tacos, taquitos, etc.).
- The service was terrible, the three employees were in the back corner chatting away.

Hoping to see some improvements.

Great food! For those that are looking for a restaurant with great atmosphere and authentic home cooked meals!! Way better food and prices similar to chain restaurants.

Iv been to a lot of good Mexican food places that I thought couldn't get better. Then I came here.

4 of us went out for supper that was 'different' from what we cook at home. All of us came away very full with no room for dessert. We loved the authentic and inhouse cooked food, very tasteful. Good value for the price and will definitely be back soon.

Great food, service was terrible.
It's unfortunate to give this a single star. The food was fantastic. The owner was extremely pleasant. Our waters took 30 minutes to come and the food took close to 50 mins. Things looked quite disorganized when it came to orders placed in the kitchen. Proven when another couple who came in 20 minutes after us were served first.
If the restaurant hired another staff member to help serve or simply made the restaurant a little smaller things would be better. A single person taking orders, serving, running cash, etc. is not enough.

Stopped here for dinner after a road trip. Amazing food and wonderful service. Some of the best Mexican food I have had.

Had an amazing lunch today in High River at Rio Alto. Awesome authentic Mexican food with such wonderful service! Better yet was the company. Thanx Mom and Dad and Happy early Birthday Brett!

What a gem!! I was hesitant to go after all the great reviews I heard only because I'm hit and miss with authentic Mexican food but these guys delivered!! Going in, the atmosphere is nice, good for a date night right up to family gatherings! The staff is wonderful and so friendly, the owner too! We ordered the 5 Layer Dip, a couple soft tacos and the Azteca Lasagna (OMG).....it was all so delicious I wish we would have ordered more as I shared with my Hubby!

And....if there's ever a power outage like there was when we were there. ....they can still feed you!! Good news all around, they never turned away anyone once the power went out!!

Wonderful! The enchiladas suizas are the best! The other menu items are also excellent

The food and service was fantastic, real authentic Mexican food.

Excellent service. Very friendly and efficient. Very tasty food. Enchiladas were very, filling just the right amount of heat and not too salty.

Great food! Service was wild spilling drinks and food but it was hilarious about worked for us. They were very apologetic and nice about it.
