South Alberta Lions Walk For Dog Guides Description
The South Alberta Lions Walk committee was set up in 2002, to raise funds for the Lions Foundation of Canada (LFC), who provides Service Dogs to disabled individuals who qualify for a Service Dog.
LFC was established in 1983 by Lions Clubs of Canada who took on the challenge of setting up a school to train guide dogs for blind co-founders Bill & Lynda Brown - individuals with a variety of other disabilities became very evident, so LFC has branched out over the years to provide Service Dogs for individuals with a variety of disabilities. These dogs are provided to individuals so that they can have a more independent life with the assistance of a Service Dog.
The Lions Foundation of Canada now provides Service Dogs through six programs which are:
GUIDE DOGS:
To assist blind or severely visually impaired individuals.
HEARING EAR DOGS:
To assist deaf and hard of hearing individuals.
SPECIAL SKILLS DOGS:
To assist individuals in wheelchairs or who have a specific disability that a dog could assist with.
SEIZURE RESPONSE DOGS:
To assist individuals in identifying when they are going to experience a seizure.
AUTISM DOGS:
To assist children who are autistic.
DIABETIC ALERT DOGS:
To assist diabetics who are not able to identify when they are about to experience low blood sugar.
In Southern Alberta there are currently 15 Service Dogs serving the community thanks to the Walk for Dog Guides!

All dogs are provided to our clients FREE of charge to those who qualify. ALL money raised goes to this project, and all those participating in ANY area of this organization are non-paid volunteers.
