Tamara Schmidt Piano Description

About me:
I have my level one in Piano Pedagogy and I am currently studying at Alberta College Conservatory of Music (Grant MacEwan University) to complete my Teacher's ARCT through the Royal Conservatory of Music.
I have a diploma in Occupational Therapy Assisting from Grant MacEwan University as well and spent 2 years working in paediatrics before deciding to teach music full time.
I have taught music part time for a total of 5 years teaching strictly private piano lessons until I completed my training to become a Music for Young Children Teacher which inspired me to make teaching music my full time career.

Description of Classes:
Music for Young Children offers a fun, interactive way for children to learn about music. All classes are parented which allows for the parent and child to bond as a music team during lessons.
MYC has taken a child based learning approach to learning music through clever merging of study and play. Classes are small, programs are age appropriate and creativity and expressions are nourished in every component of the program.

Programs Available:
SUNRISE - ages 2 and 3
A pre-school music program that helps the child develop listening awareness, fine motor skills, attention span, and social skills.
SUNSHINE (ages 3 1 /2 and 4)
The youngest of the keyboard programs. The children experience gross motor movement in beat at rhythm as well as fine motor experiences in rhythm instrument ensembles. By the end of the first year they are playing in C major, middle C position and reading from the staff
SUNBEAMS (ages 5 and 6)
Vocabulary development is the focus for this age group - at this age the children are introduced to various musical concepts, finger numbers and keyboard geography. Songs and games are used to reinforce listening and learning.
MOONBEAMS (ages 7-9)
The older beginner program is designed to support the students' growing sense of independence. Reading becomes the primary focus for gathering information, while songs ensembles and keyboard repertoire incorporate early piano literature, folk songs, technique and harmonization.
* At the end of the program students are prepared for Grade One Conservatory Exams.

Private Piano Lessons are for ages 6 and up with a focus on preparing children for Royal Conservatory Exams and Theory Courses while still making lessons fun and enjoyable! !
