About Teatro La Quindicina

Live theatre that’s a RIOT OF FUN!

Teatro La Quindicina Description

Since incorporating in 1988, we have kept our focus on the presentation of new plays created specifically around the talents of an ensemble of dedicated Edmonton-based performers. We have been presenting live theatre at the Varscona since 1992. Our most recent successes have included Mrs. Lindeman Proposes (the biggest hit of the 2011 Edmonton International Fringe Festival) and sell-out smashes like The Hoof and Mouth Advantage, The Scent of Compulsion, The Ambassador’s Wives, The Oculist’s Holiday, Everybody Goes to Mitzi’s, Eros and the Itchy Ant, Evelyn Strange, A Grand Time in the Rapids, and Witness to a Conga, which won Stewart Lemoine his seventh Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Award for playwrighting. Teatro’s most celebrated production, Pith! completed successful runs in Edmonton, Calgary, Ottawa, Toronto and New York City, where it played on three occasions. It will be revived in an all-new production this year. Stewart Lemoine, winner of the inaugural Tommy Banks Performing Arts Award for a lifetime of achievement in Alberta Theatre writes and directs much of our work. We are also dedicated to presenting a new comedy by an emerging Edmonton writer every season and Mr. Lemoine mentors these talented young playwrights. Longtime ensemble member Jeff Haslam has just begun his 5th season as Artistic Director, again in a summer festival May - Oct. format. The company also includes such well-known Edmonton actors as Leona Brausen, Ron Pederson, Sheri Somerville, Davina Stewart, Belinda Cornish, Cathy Derkach, Julien Arnold, Jocelyn Ahlf, Andrew MacDonald Smith & more. Our 2012 season marks our 30th anniversary!
