The Yards

About The Yards

Edmonton's Central Magazine

The Yards Description

The Yards makes sense of downtown Edmonton's transformation and growth. It shares insightful urban planning, development, lifestyle and cultural stories that will change the way you see and participate in the core. With an all-star roster of writers and thinkers, professional journalists and designers, The Yards introduces more than 30, 000 readers to the issues, faces and businesses that matter to them.

"The Yards" is a loving tribute. Both to the CN rail yards that ran through the area just a generation ago, and to the role downtown has always played, as a gathering place for the whole city. These are all our yards to enjoy and appreciate, but also to maintain and protect.

Look out for our December 2014 launch!

The Yards is published four times a year by the Oliver and Downtown Edmonton Community Leagues. Supported by a non-profit group, the Central Edmonton News Society, our editorial committee is a brain trust of entrepreneurs, community organizers and artists who live or work in central Edmonton. Dylan Ella
Dylan Ella is a singer-songwriter from Edmonton. The talented 16-year-old "darling of Champ City" is no newcomer to the stage. Whether busking at farmers' markets, performing at local festivals and pubs, or opening up for touring artists including The Royal Foundry, Danny Michel, Mo Kenney, Craig Cardiff, and Daniel Romano, Dylan's soulful lyrics, mesmerizing vocals and charismatic stage presence have captivated audiences of all ages.
She released her first EP, Dream Girl, in 2017, and her first full-length album, FEEL MY GUTS, in September 2018. The album perfectly captures her mature songwriting skills, with a variety of folk, punk and old-timey influences that shine through. It reached #1 on CJSR's Folk/Roots/Blues chart in October 2018. Dylan Ella was recently nominated in the 'Rising Star' category at the 2018 Edmonton Music Awards.
