You may recognize this week's photo of the week, as it's this month's feature photo in the Town calendar, but it was also selected as the cover shot for the calendar. This shot of the original Laurie Boyd Bridge, taken by Anna Shearer, captures the bridge beautifully and represents a part of Okotoks' history that is very personal to so many in the community.

Snow removal will continue on Downey Road Monday, February 25.
While our Transportation crews endeavor to do their very best, snow removal activities are weather dependent and subject to last minute changes. All vehicles and other obstructions should be removed from the road way prior to snow removal equipment commencing with the work.
For safety of both the operators and the public, please ensure to stay back from snow removal equipment while the equipment is engaged. Mot...orists are advised to ensure when traveling through these areas that they do so with extreme caution. The public should also stay away from any stockpiled snow during snow removal efforts as stockpiled snow is unstable.

While you're checking out all of the awesome Rogers Hometown Hockey action downtown, stop in for some hockey-themed crafts at the OAG with your littles.

User

OK, so we have some updates for tomorrow's Youth PEP Rally!! There are some pretty incredible guests attending: Chris Cederstrand, Bearcat Murray, Mayor Bill Robertson, and Ryan Straschnitzki from the Humboldt Broncos. Can't wait to see you all from 1-2:30PM at the ORC Gym TOMORROW (Feb 22)! Oh, and wear your favorite jersey too...

User

We interrupt all of the Rogers Hometown Hockey posts with something a little less light. At 2:28PM, RCMP have traffic detoured at the Costco turnoff on Hwy 7 and at Aldersyde due to a motor vehicle collision, until further notice.

User

As if we aren't already blowing up your Feed with Rogers Hometown Hockey...but there's more: we have a Badges vs. Okotoks Youth ball hockey game on Friday, Feb 22 from 6-7pm in the downtown rink! Members of the RCMP, OME, and Fire Services will be taking on the Youth. Come cheer them on!!!

User

We will keep the BTS pics coming as more set up takes place. Here are some shots of the stage and ball hockey rink being put up!

You just have to love the downhome small-town feel of OKOTOKS! It's a nice place to put your feet up and sit a spell!!! Love it there!!!

User

Okotoks is a very pleasant town to visit and people are very friendly. I have camped in the Lions campground and love to stay there. I like to walk and very much enjoy the many paths and views from same. Highly recommend a visit

User

My heart will always remain in Okotoks... No matter where in the world I live. It's the one place I'll always call home.

User

I love living here. It worries me that we will grow too big and lose our small town appeal. Yes, the taxes are high, but we have bigger lot sizes than you find in the city. We don't have the traffic you find in the city and the quality of life here is great.

User

I have family here. and what I have seen in my visits , the ppl are friendly and the stores man oh man the stores I just loved it...be back again and again see you all soon !<3

User

I grew up a many of my years in Okotoks at a town of 6300 back then!!! |I am coming back with my family to serve the community !! Great place to raise a family and can't wait to join the Fire Dept and volunteer!!!

User

I find the people who live here are friendly and helpful.this is a great community and a good place to live.

User

Beautiful place to enjoy and relax with family!

User

Very nice town, I'd rather live there than Calgary. Lots of variety in places to shop at or eat at.

User

I like Okotoks very much, but the ice on the side streets is horrible. I slipped and fell on the street yesterday, and landed flat on my back. I'm badly bruised and hurt. Why aren't the sanders and/or out every day, making the streets safer? Someone is going to get seriously injured. I have to have my walks shoveled in 24 hrs, or I can get fined. I pay huge taxes. Why isn't our town ensuring that the same is done on all streets?

User

I would like to see a continuation of the book swap that was located in the recycling center. That was a good community service.

I recently visited the new recycling center. There are some obvious kinks that need to be worked out. But I am thankful that I live in such a forward thinking community.

User

I find the council and there actions are far detached from what the citizens want. There seems to be no evolution in there actions or they way they carry out business. There's little to no management within the organization. For example there summer and winter landscaping and town maintenance crews have no accountability. They will cut the grass in the parks blow all the cuttings out on the street and leave it. In the winter the snow removal if and when it is done in my community tears tears the grass up everywhere. This all comes down to onsite supervision and holding people accountable.

User

Town council continually allows the utility services to rip off its residents despite the fact they have already been caught overcharging. Now the new garbage Tax imposed to FORCE it's residents to have 3 garbage bins. NDP style government doesn't work but apparently is alive and well in Okotoks. Think twice before moving here.

User

The fact that you guys keep continually cutting down trees and plant them with out proper care is so disappointing. Maybe this time just don't bother planting any new ones because your lack of understanding on how to properly maintain them is just embarrassing! Good to know we will be looking like the next shawnessy! No trees or landscape and just in general and run down box community ! Cheers

User

So there may be a cougar near the river but no warning on facebook at all? You guys post every other thing on here but don't bother warning the public before they decide to go for a walk. And you guy deleted my comment on another post since the only way we can talk to you guys is by calling. Nice to see you guys don't want anyone contacting you through facebook.

User

Shout out to Okotoks finest for the bang up job of arresting a mother in front of her kids for unpaid dog fines!! The best part was when I called your office the day before to take care of the matter, and was not told I had a warrant for my arrest. But instead you turn the paper work over to the police who show up the next night to arrest me while making dinner for my kids!!! How much easier would it have been to let me know the day before, I could have come down to the office and taken care of it! But no instead you utilize police, detainment, and humiliation. And the amount of money that effort took far outweighs the cost of my fines!! Sleep easy okotoks your police did a great job getting a hardened criminal of the streets! What a joke!!

User

Okotoks would be a good place to live....when it's managed properly by a competent and responsible mayor and council. Just received my property assessment which included the usual property tax guide. In a nutshell:

- $8 million towards public works and transportation... I'm still waiting for the town to repair the sidewalk and the potholes in our street. I've put in a work request through the proper channels but never received a reply back (and we're 3 years later...)

- $7.7 million goes to administration. I wonder how much the mayor and council makes per year? Ok, it pays for other town employees etc but I think a council member's position should become a volunteer position!

- $9.5 million for protective services. I'm sorry but please get your own police service. The town is only "renting" the RCMP and they're costly. On the other hand they don't do a lot here in town...whenever you need them they're not around or they'll find the best excuse not to show up. And don't get me started about those pathetic peace officers! The town should buy a of sign for each and every one of them which says "insert brain here -->".

I tried talking to the mayor but it's useless...

User

I drive through Tom Hortons at Westmount this morning and see water spraying randomly forming a huge puddle in the parking lot and am reminded that I have done my part to not water and lost my entire yard to the heat yet this is happening...I tried to post a picture but your page does not allow

User

I am very disappointed in the changes to the Buskerfest since the Town has taken it over. You no longer support young entrepreneurs. A valuable skill for these kids: increased self esteem, creativity, drive, problem-solving skills and so much more.

The Town / Government needs to look at the bigger picture - inspiring, mentoring and encouraging future job creators benefits us all. This seems like a step backwards in this day and age, especially in this economic downturn.

I am asking the Town to reconsider this decision and support our youth. This change can still be made this year. I know of many business minded youth have been planning to attend the Buskerfest as a vendor and at $80 a table, this is out of their reach and not a way to support and encourage these youth.
