Ymca Of Northern Alberta - Castle Downs Description

In the early 1980s, the Castle Downs Recreation Society (CDRS) established a vision for a district park located in Castle Downs. The CDRS is composed of several community leagues in the area. The community dreamt of a park site that contained sport fields, playgrounds, picnic areas and a major recreation centre.
In 1989, the City of Edmonton opened the Castle Downs Recreation Centre with twin ice arenas and a community hall. Still, more remained to be accomplished in order to have a fully developed recreation centre, a recreation centre that boasted areas to exercise and socialize, a swimming pool, and a gymnasium.

Very helpful friendly staff.

Gentleman's wheel chair broke and the staff brought out their tools and helped fix it.

Two wks off the gym, did boot camp yesterday morning and can barely move today!! Lol I love this Y and all the amazing staff! The mon, wed morn boot camps and Friday morning Max Strength are my fav classes! Instructors are so amazing and all the ppl in classes are awesome! Love this place!

My whole family loves this place. My children go 3 times a week for child minding and they love meeting new children and hanging out with heir friend who come regularly. I really enjoy the staff and chatting with some of the other gym goers. Their extra classes for the kids are fun (so I'm told by my children) and I'm very satisfied with Castle Downs.

My daughter goes swimming classes here and she loves it , love her swimming instructor ( his name is Tyler) . Really happy with the service ..

Haven’t been to the YMCA in years, but this was the first time at the castledowns ones and my kids had a blast so we’re happy

User

Great place..my daughter had her swimming lesson here..friendly staffs

User

An excellent place to chill. We made a volleyball team and have fun on Sundays and Tuesday evenings.

User

A microcosm of how all societies should be: inclusive, open, welcoming, respectful...and fun! A great place to stay healthy and feed the spirit. It's been a lifesaver for our family since we moved here 5 years ago.

User

Would be a 5star for me if the men's plus room wasn't so bloody expensive .

So I had an interesting evening and a huge eye opener..

I went to the PTSD Awareness Fair at the YMCA tonight, and I am really upset to say this but I was very disappointed

It was advertised as you can see in the picture below as "having a wide variety of resources for people of all ages" where in fact this just wasn't true, this entire fair was based solely for First Responders/Veterans.

Every booth had programs and resources available but NONE were available to the general public, and as a PTSD sufferer myself this didn't really sit well with me:(

I felt bad for the ladies at the booth for War Horse Foundation as they were the unfortunate one who got asked by me "WHAT ABOUT EVERYONE ELSE WITH PTSD? Where are their resources"

As an awareness fair I felt it should have at least included stuff for everyone else..

-the sole survivor of a fatal car crash

-the victim of sexual/domestic abuse

Where are their resources, and why were they not available at this fair? Thankfully they understood and gave me some answers and some ideas, but it also made me very aware to how little this disease is acknowledged unless you are a first responder/veteran:(

I think I just found my new passion....more needs to be done and made available to the everyday people suffering by themselves

User

Great place and Staff. Gym with new equipment has made working out lot more fun. The swimming side not to impressed with people just finish playing ball in the gym or working out and coming into the pool without showering. I really hope the swim guards can make a push to shower everytime to All Members.

User

Question,, do you need ID when going for the public swim ?? my 3 daughter's went there for the public swim and was told they needed ID to go swimming,, i thought it was kinda rude of them to ask

User

Admission is too high. Servus Place in St Alberta is much more feasible and only 5 min away. Won't be back!
