This spring Admin Coy will focus on individual battle task standards. First up this Wednesday was machine guns.

Members of the 1 Service Battalion (Edmonton) join the Canadian Armed Forces and the rest of Canada in honouring the fallen and injured from the tragic bus crash involving the Humboldt Broncos.

Building on skills acquired during Ex ROCKY RIDER 18 and to test junior leadership in a winter environment, 1 Svc Bn conducted a back-country patrol competition from 11-16 March 2018 in McBride, BC culminating in a charity hockey game with the Village of McBride.
The total competition route distance was approximately 15.8km, and was broken up by four evaluation stands. The Maintenance Company team ultimately prevailed as the Ex GHOST RIDER 2018 winner; a hard earned victory.
...While the 1 Service Battalion hockey team led for most of the Charity Hockey Game, the McBride Selects found an extra gear in the third period and snuck out an overtime win.
Ex GHOST RIDER 18 proved to be a valuable training exercise for all involved and the hospitality provided to 1 Service Battalion soldiers by the people of McBride will not soon be forgotten.

1 Service Battalion and Community, The battalion once held 4 statues of Dahl Rams such as the one depicted below. Unfortunately, 2 were damaged beyond repair. They are used for head tables for each company for battalion functions. From 5 to 9 February 2018, a total of 44 members of 1 Service Battalion had the opportunity to go on Ex ROCKY RIDER 18. The Exercise focused on backcountry snowmobiling and snowshoeing as well as avalanche awareness techniques.
Du 5 au 9 février 2018, un total de 44 membres du 1er Bataillon des services ont eu l'opportunité de participer à l'Ex ROCKY RIDER 18. L'emphase de cet exercice était sur la motoneige et la raquette hors-piste ainsi que des techniques de sensibilisation aux avalanches.

The RCEME Bonspiel from 22-25 Feb was a curling tournament hosted by 1 Service Battalion. Members, veterans and guests of the RCEME Corps from the area competed against eachother in this morale boosting championship. Congratulations to "The Dance Maurauders" for first place in the A Division, to "The Sadies" for best dressed and "Team Mogg" for most Sportsmanship.

Canadian Forces Logistics Association (CFLA Edmonton Chapter) will hold a Meet & Greet Thursday, 8 March 2018, 18:00-20:00 hrs upstairs in the Edmonton Garrison WOs and Sgts Mess. All retired and currently serving Logisticians of all ranks are welcome. 50/50 draw to be held after 19:00 hrs

From 12 to 14 January, 2018, a seven person contingent represented 1 Service Battalion at Ex ICY MUSTANG. The contingent trained in conjunction with 41 Service Battalion and several other geographically neighbouring units. The Exercise was a learning opportunity, which was under the direction of 4 Canadian Ranger Patrol Group, to grasp basic cold weather survival skills. Members who took part learned cold weather first aid, trapping, rescue signals, and shelter building. Select personnel from each unit participated in a 24 hour wilderness survival, where they were provided minimal resources, in order to test their mettle.

On December 5th, the Deputy Commanding Officer's Cup put the companies of 1 Service Battalion head-to-head. Maintenance, Administratrion, Transportation and Supply Company members competed in a multi-sport competition to determine the victors of 2017. 1 Service Battalion would like to congratulate Maintenance Company on their achievements for winning this yeards DCO's Cup

Building 179 displaying its offical name above its main entrance. The new lettering was completed 15 November 2017 to complement its official dedication in 1996 by MGen M.D. Jefferies CD. " Edifice Bell/Slumkofske Building" is named after two distinguished soldiers. Colonel Bell was a logistician of WWI and Sergeant Slumkofske was a RCEME soldier who served in WWII.

The 1746 1 Service Battalion of Creston, BC participating in Remembrance Day ceremonies. This unit of Royal Canadian Army Cadets Corps has its affiliations through 1 Service Battalion and proudly wears the RCEME cap badge.
