Whether it is the Mediterranean, Keto, the Atkins, or even the old fashioned low fat, low calorie, all diets seem to produce only short term weight loss. People see immediate results but the diet can not be sustained long term.
Most people rebound and end up gaining back the weight they had lost, and then some!!
Join us as we discuss why diets don’t work and how to crack the code for long term success!

Reversing diabetes is a term that usually refers to a significant long-term improvement in insulin sensitivity in people with type 2 diabetes. Through lifestyle and dietary changes this is ABSOLUTELY possible! Type 2 diabetes is caused by insulin RESISTANCE, which means that the hormone insulin is being released, but your cells don't RESPOND to the hormone anymore! Imagine INSULIN like the POSTMAN, who keeps ringing the door bell over and over, every time you open the door h...e hands you a package of SUGAR, eventually these packages of sugar start piling up, HIGHER and HIGHER, until you can't fit anymore packages in your house. SO, What do you do?? You STOP answering the door, even though the door bell is ringing you refuse to take another package. This is essentially what your cells start doing, ignoring that annoying insulin because they can't handle anymore SUGAR! Diabetes is a bit more complicated than my postman scenario but research has shown that when the taking proper SUPERVISED steps, patients can have ASTONISHING RESULTS! So how can it be prevented and reversed?!? ...DIET and EXERCISE! Foods high in FIBER: High-fiber foods help slow down sugar absorption. High fiber foods like Brussels sprouts, peas and artichokes, avocados, berries, nuts and seeds, especially chia seeds and flaxseeds. Foods high in CHROMIUM: Chromium is a nutrient that’s very closely involved in regulating blood sugar! BROCCOLI has the highest amounts of chromium, but you can also find it in RAW cheese, green BEANS, brewer’s yeast and GRASS-FED beef. MAGNESIUM-rich foods: Magnesium can help regulate blood sugar levels. Research shows that diabetes is frequently associated with magnesium DEFICIENCY. Eating magnesium-rich foods, like spinach, chard, PUMPKIN seeds, ALMONDS, yogurt and black BEANS, can improve type 2 diabetes symptoms. Clean PROTEIN: Eating protein helps to keep your blood sugar levels STABLE! BEST sources of clean protein include wild-caught FISH, which contains omega-3 fats that reduce inflammation, grass-fed beef, organic chicken, LENTILS, eggs! Diabetes DOESN'T have to be a life sentence, a few small changes can have a monumental impact!

Vitamin D is an essential fat-soluble vitamin. It’s sometimes called the “sunshine vitamin” because our skin makes it when exposed to sun. But, as Canadians did you know it’s also the most common nutrient deficiency!
Vitamin D has many functions in the body. It’s mostly known for its ability to help build strong bones. But, vitamin D is also important for a healthy immune system, digestive system, and mental health and blood sugar.
Low vitamin D levels are associated with hig...her levels of insulin resistance in people without diabetes. Lack of vitamin D may also increase the risk of developing diabetes. So supplementing with vitamin D may help improve blood sugar management and reduce insulin resistance !
Vitamin D also has a role in circadian rhythms and sleep, affects growth of nerve cells, and impacts the developing brain in children! There is growing evidence of the links between low blood levels of vitamin D and symptoms of depression. Some studies have also show a link between low vitamin D and increased risk of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
So how can you ensure you are getting enough? The best sources of vitamin D include fatty fish and fish liver oils. Some is also found in beef liver, some cheeses, and egg yolks. Naturally occurring plant sources of vitamin D are some mushrooms that have been exposed to the sun! Incorporating these foods can help ensure you are getting enough but you can talk to your doctor or nutritionist incorporating a daily supplement!
