The Academy for Yoga Science was founded to continue in the systematic study and the dissemination of the non-dual philosophies and techniques of the technology of Yoga via our contemporary Yogic lifestyle & teacher training courses, workshop modules and online conferences.
Our aim is in contributing a clear voice in the continued conversation that seeks to bridge the gap between spirituality and science. We strive to seamlessly blend the timeless wisdom of the mystics with a modern understanding of human consciousness, the body, movement and the mind. Free from religious dogma and grounded in experiential study. We are continuing to discuss, debate, challenge and in some cases completely change the context from which we practice and understand yoga postures, and the other yogic techniques. Our approach to teaching these tools to others must also continue evolving so that they remain applicable, useful and as a path towards a realization of the limitless nature of our Self as consciousness - which is ultimately the purpose for this great technology [Yoga] .
The time has long passed to release the dogmatic trappings of all methods, systems and ideologies so we may help usher in the new era of understanding in Yogic thought. We have seen a decline and lacking in the quality of understanding that many of our well intentioned yoga teachers are bringing into our communities. This is in part due to misguided teacher training programs that are mostly fuelled and fed by the consumer /corporate fitness /relaxation obsessed agenda - culturally appropriated and white washed in the most unconsciously conditioned of ways for mass appeal. Yogic techniques, including postures & movement are often being taught without a complete understanding of the nature of consciousness /the mind, the energetic 'yogic body', and how the physical body functions. This lack of understanding is largely due to outdated ideas and the absence of scrutiny towards recipes composed and handed down within a myriad of Guru led patriarchal and misogynistic systems. Attachment to old ideas and an aversion to taking responsibility for our own evolution.
Our Tantra /Hatha /Vinyasa training programs have been exclusively developed and are taught by our small faculty of forward thinking and highly experienced Yogins. We utilize the timeless wisdom, tools and techniques from schools of classic (non-dual) Buddhism and Tantra. Classic Hatha Yoga and it's contemporaries form our foundation of practice; including Iyengar Yoga, Sivananda, Bihar & Ashtanga Vinyasa. All is modernized through the lens of contemporary thought in biomechanics /kinesiology, sports science and specialty modalities like Critical Alignement Yoga and Therapy (CAT). The result is a training program that will truly deepen your experience of yourself and your understanding of the science of Yoga. We will ensure that you are adequately prepared for the awesome responsibility of what is involved in safely and effectively teaching others one of the most valuable technologies developed by humans to support them in their evolution.
