What can I say about Affinity, that hasn't already been said?!

It's amazing! I love it. The instructors are awesome, very knowledgable, approachable and just all round good people. A friend convinced me to come try, although to be honest I have always wanted to learn bjj so it really didn't take much convincing at all, and as soon as I stepped on the mats and tried my first class, I was hooked.

The people at Affinity treat you like family, the sr. belts are always more than willing to slow down and show you proper form and technique.

I could go on for ever, but will just say this,I definitely have zero regrets about joining and I plan to train for years to come!

Thankyou Affinity Academy for making me feel welcome, and guiding me down this new path in life!

User

This is a great academy! I signed up looking to get some exercise, burn a few calories and experience some friendly competition along the way. What I found is a great group of people that genuinely care about your well being and want you to be the best you can be. The atmosphere is relaxed for new students with lots of areas of opportunity to learn; coaches, other students, online resources, etc. For more experienced practitioners, there is a good group of people who are willing to get a bit more 'gritty' in a respectful way. The people involved at Affinity really turn this academy from just another 'martial arts gym' into a fun and safe place to train, with a truly 'close-knit family' feel.

User

The owner of Affinity and his wife are two of the most genuinely kind people. You can clearly see this when they are training members. They have endless patience, respect for others and a vast knowledge base. You can tell they love Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and ignite a love for BJJ in you as well. Whether they are training kids or adults, the calm, peaceful atmosphere of Affinity is clearly felt. My husband and two boys are training as well as myself. It is an amazing work out and as a woman, gives you the confidence to be able to defend yourself if the need ever came. They definitely have our respect for the way they conduct themselves in such a respectful manor every single class.

If you are looking for a great place to start training or continue training, trust me and look no further!

Super wicked leader in Andell and great peope to train with! Nice clean gym with great training i cant wait to be back

My experience at Affinity has been nothing but positive. I am new to bjj and I’m really happy I joined. I came from tae kwon do and I’m so glad I made the switch. I feel privileged to train in such a friendly environment. Everyone at Affinity is super nice and welcoming. I was nervous to try it, but when I did I loved it. The instructors are very helpful and supportive. I would highly recommend Affinity.

User

My daughter started about 3 months ago and I think she's doing really well. That's because of the amazing instruction and, most importantly for her age, other children who are very welcoming and friendly.

User

My Brazilian Jiu Jitsu experience at Affinity Academy has been amazing. Top notch instruction, great members and an excellent facility. A great club to join for any level or age. It's an awesome workout, it engages your mind and you see the results of your training when rolling on the mats with other members. Highly recommend this club!

User

Joined in July 2017, and never looked back. I've played sports all my life and I was happy to learn that you can make the classes as challenging as you want. I was a little nervous for my first class, but everyone was friendly and welcoming. The only problem I've had is that I don't have enough free time to train more! Highly recommend this acadamy.

User

I started training at Affinity at the original Ranchlands location as a two-stripe blue belt after moving from Edmonton to Calgary for school. From the very first class, I was impressed by the friendliness of the students and the knowledge and skill displayed by Coach Andell. Since that time I have watched as Affinity has grown into it's beautiful new location - clean and bright, good changerooms, bathroom and a shower - and the level of BJJ on display by the students has continued to improve. Affinity is a very family-friendly, respectful and ego/bruiser-free gym, which nevertheless has cranked out a number of very successful competitors in the Alberta scene, including Coach Andell himself. I'm moving again to continue my schooling, but I will certainly be back to train at Affinity the next time I'm in Calgary. Strongly recommend!

I started my personal fitness journey in 2012. Like most people, I started running and eating better. I was losing weight but I didn't feel strong, so I hired a personal trainer for 3 months in 2013 to learn proper weight lifting techniques. I eventually felt stronger but the experience wasn't fulfilling. Then I began to search for some other sort of challenge to fill the void, and that's when I started looking into the different areas of martial arts. Coincidently, sensei Andell and I actually worked for the same company, and that's how I came across the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class which he offers during lunch hour. My first class was in January 2015, and with no prior martial art experience I thought I would be intimidated. However, my fear of being in a new environment was quickly vanished by the friendliness of the team and the awesome techniques that was being taught that day. And since then, I was totally hooked. I started taking 2 BJJ classes per week and slowly increasing to 5-6 classes. The things I love about BJJ is that it still manages to challenge me every time I get on the mat, at the same time allowing me to see my potential and areas that need improvement. I can see this being my life long journey and I am glad that I've found Affinity Academy to guide me along the way. It's crucial to be in a positive training environment surrounded by supportive training partners. These elements can definitely be found at the Affinity Academy. Also, I have been bringing my 7 yr old daughter to the kids BJJ class, where I can see a positive impact on her self-confident and self-awareness just after a few sessions.

User

I started BJJ at the Affinity Academy in February. It was a challenge for me to get started because I was afraid and quite anxious. It was something completely new to me and I thought maybe I wouldn't be strong or "tough" enough to join. From my very first class until now, everyone has been so welcoming and very supportive with one another. The Academy is a very positive and family friendly environment. Our Sensei's Andell and Clifton are professional and very knowledgeable of this art. Classes are well structured and quite challenging, which keeps me coming back for more. BJJ is beginning to change my life in many ways. I take pride in being a part of this team. I will be forever grateful and will continue to be humble learning this gentle art.

User

I love this place. Super clean facility, friendly and knowledgeable people who are more than willing to help you feel safe and comfortable learning the art.

User

I joined Affinity Academy 7 months ago, it has been one of the best decisions of my life ! Every individual there no matter what level of belt contributes to a collaborative environment. If you're looking to stay fit and be a better version of yourself - I'd highly recommend this place.

User

I dropped in for an open mat and was well received with a friendly environment. Having traveled and trained around the world this place hold a very open and inviting experience. Thanks for the rolls!

User

I currently have 2 kids in the jujitsu program at Affinity and couldn't ask for a better introduction for them both to martial arts. The coaches are excellent at engaging with young children and the other members have been very welcoming. Has very quickly become the favourite activity for both my kids and I believe the technical skills and the character lessons taught to them there will benefit them greatly as they grow. I would highly recommend this gym and these coaches to anyone looking for a BJJ program for their sons or daughters.

User

Great academy! Really nice space and super friendly group of people, who were all really welcoming of me joining them on the mats today. Excited to go back .

User

Excellent programs for both adults and kids with great instructors. A family and community oriented academy with a safe and fun learning environment. A wonderful martial arts academy for all ages, highly recommended.

User

BJJ taught in a super inspirational way! Many great people to roll with that are willing to share their knowledge with newbies like me. They also go beyond in regards to encouragement and are always making you feel empowered to get better and better. I just started but I already know I want to stick around. I am super stoked about leaning more about this amazing art, sport, way of life.. you name it!

User

As a visiting BJJ Brown Belt I can definitely say that Affinity Academy is a top notch gym- every single person there was super welcoming and fun to train with, and the coaches were fantastic. The facility is extremely clean and modern, there was a great mix of all belt/experience levels, and again, everyone was super nice!

I shall return! Thanks!

Thanks!

My daughter started about 3 months ago and I think she's doing really well. That's because of the amazing instruction and, most importantly for her age, other children who are very welcoming and friendly.

I joined Affinity Academy 7 months ago, it has been one of the best decisions of my life ! Every individual there no matter what level of belt contributes to a collaborative environment. If you're looking to stay fit and be a better version of yourself - I'd highly recommend this place.

I dropped in for an open mat and was well received with a friendly environment. Having traveled and trained around the world this place hold a very open and inviting experience. Thanks for the rolls!

Great academy! Really nice space and super friendly group of people, who were all really welcoming of me joining them on the mats today. Excited to go back .
