Our MissionAirdrie P. O. W. E. R. is a non-profit organization that seeks to provide women in Airdrie and District with the means to leave an abusive environment through emergency resources, education and empowerment, thus creating a safe and sustainable community. R. got its start in May of 2015, when one of the founding members witnessed an act of domestic violence in public. Cell phone in hand with police on the line, she stood strong and waited for the police to arrive and help the woman she saw being attacked by her boyfriend. It validated the need for a shelter in our community and a decision to spearhead the effort was born. Through countless hours of dedication and hard work, Airdrie P. O. W. E. R. is making huge strides to develop partnerships with local agencies and community businesses to develop programming to assist women and children fleeing domestic violence. Through fundraising events and sponsorship, grant applications and funding requests, the realization of an Airdrie Women's Shelter is the closest it has ever been.
