About Alberta Association Of Black Social Workers

The AABSW was developed in response to a need for community, connection, support and recognition. We focus on addressing these needs by providing social networking, peer support, mentorship, supervision, professional development, education, training, community service, organizational support, advocacy and research. * Community Service (advocacy, research, education, and training)Address health and social inequalities as they relate to people of African descent in Alberta. * Provide advocacy on issues that disproportionately impact people of African descent in Alberta and beyond. * Support Black Social Workers through social connection, networking, peer support, mentorship, supervision, and professional development opportunities. *Raise awareness about anti-Black racism through research, scholarship, training, education, and informative workshops. *Increase accessibility to Black Social Workers through the development of a directory for accessing culturally-specific counseling, case management, case advocacy. * Provide community and stakeholder identified training, education, awareness initiatives, and workshops related to accessibility, equity, and systemic change.
