Alberta Aviation Museum

About Alberta Aviation Museum

The Alberta Aviation Museum opened in 1992 as a nonprofit historical society dedicated to preserving Alberta's aviation heritage. It was founded by a large group of aviation enthusiasts, many of whom worked or trained at the aircraft hangar that houses our museum. The hangar was built under the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan in 1941 as an aviation training centre for the Second World War and is now a designated both as Provincial and Municipal Historic Resource. In the 25 years that the Museum has been in operation, it has evolved from a volunteer-driven enterprise to a professional, accredited museum. Since the closure of the Edmonton Municipal Airport in 2013, the Alberta Aviation Museum has become a Recognized Museum through the Alberta Museums Association and has begun a major revitalization project. Museum Vision: To be a professional and respected aviation museum and community partner. Museum Mission: To tell the story of Edmonton's rich aviation legacy through exciting displays, artifacts and activities related to Alberta and the North, past, present and future.
