About Alberta Family Wellness Initiative

The Alberta Family Wellness Initiative (AFWI) works to apply emerging research about experienced-based brain and biological development.

Alberta Family Wellness Initiative Description

The Alberta Family Wellness Initiative (AFWI) is a program established by the Norlien Foundation, a pro-active private foundation with offices in Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta. The AFWI's aim is to apply emerging research about experienced-based brain and biological development as it relates to early childhood development and children’s mental health, and its lifelong impact on addiction and other negative health outcomes. The AFWI works to connect and integrate the science, policy, and practice communities within a framework of epigenetics and developmental and behavioural neurosciences.

The AFWI has established partnerships with numerous local, provincial, national, and international organizations, bringing leading scientists and other experts together with researchers, policy makers, healthcare professionals, front-line workers, and the public to share innovative ideas and co-ordinate strategies that promote family wellness.

These efforts are aimed at helping Alberta emerge as a recognized leader in the co-ordination of science, policy, and practice for the benefit of children and their families.
