About Alberta Fish And Game Association

Our vision of the future is . . . ensuring more habitat, fish and wildlife resources for the use and enjoyment of all Albertans

Alberta Fish And Game Association Description

The Alberta Fish and Game Association(AFGA) was founded in 1908 to protect and promote Alberta’s fish, wildlife and habitat for the enjoyment of all Albertans. It is a volunteer-based, non-profit organization that, as of December 31, 2010 has grown to more than 20, 400 members from 14, 000 since 2002. AFGA’s members are present in more than 440 communities throughout Alberta and collectively provide volunteer capacity for AFGA projects that benefit all Albertans such as land stewardship, conservation of sensitive habitats, weed control, boater and hunter safety programs, nest-box building, school presentations, and other activities.

Though the majority of its members are hunters and /or anglers, many others join to assist in AFGA’s conservation efforts. AFGA also offers family memberships so our children and grandchildren can learn more about their living legacy, and how to protect and conserve it today and in the future. In support of this, it is of interest to note that of the three membership types available---youth, regular, and family--- it is the latter that has shown the greatest percentage increase thus indicating the relevance of today’s Alberta Fish & Game Association to a younger demographic.
