Alina Rydz, Registered Psychologist Description

I realized my passion for counselling while volunteering at the University of Alberta’s (U of A) Sexual Assault Centre. After completing Bachelor's degrees in both Neuroscience and Psychology, I was accepted to the U of A Master's program in Counselling Psychology. I was fortunate to receive additional training in psychotherapy and assessment at the U of A Hospital's Clinical Psychology Services. For the past three years, I have been working at the U of A Hospital’s Burn Unit and General Systems ICU. My role on these units involves helping patients and families navigate one of the most confusing, distressing, and hopeless experiences of their lives.

Between my volunteer work, practicums, and hospital positions, I have worked with a wide range of concerns (depression, anxiety, anger, grief, trauma, and sexual assault) and have met diverse individuals. I’ve come to respect that we all have our struggles and burdens, some more easy to overcome than others. My goal as a psychologist is to provide the stability, understanding, and skilled support you need to move through your challenges and to overcome barriers to a rewarding life. As I tailor therapy to individual needs, I incorporate several therapeutic modalities into my work, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Compassion-focussed Therapy (CFT). My style is collaborative, patient, and transparent. I am always happy to answer questions: feel free to give me a call!
