Allison'S Wonderland Day Home: Where The Adventure Begins

A day home filled with love and ADVENTURE for your child /children run by myself, graduate of ECD and CYC with my first aid and criminal record check.

After having had a very fun filled successful day home with my sister, Beth Martyn, of the Martyns' Nest Day Home for two years, I have decided to run a day home from my own place.

I (Allison Carr) am a stay at home mom of two amazing children, Indikah (5) and Cassius (3) that has formerly worked in the social services field for 20 years. My experience includes owning and running a day home, working, supervising and coordinating day care's and out-of-school cares, practicum placements and jobs in psychiatric units, school settings, drop-in centre's, treatment facilities, shelters. I am also currently a SPARK'S leader for the second year in a row.

I believe that healthy food, fresh air and a stimulating "learning through play" structured environment foster each child's potential so that they can develop at their own pace in a safe and nurturing environment. I aim to provide an inclusive environment and work with the families to provide similar values and community involvement.

I LOVE life, people, families, children and a real sense of community and being able to create a safe, caring, creative, loving environment filled with learning and awe every day for my own children. I want my children to gain life long friends and be in a social environment where they learn to share, appreciate other's unique qualities and work out differences. Therefore, now that I can, I would like to open my home to one or two more children to share, laugh, have fun and join the daily adventure!

Every day children will get to experience social relationships and situations, we go on lots of natural and planned field trips! They will get physical activity, either outside, playing lively circle games and /or going to indoor play spaces. They will be intellectually stimulated by well thought out questions, getting them to do research, playing games and doing puzzles. They will be creative, doing crafts, art projects, setting up plays, playing make-believe and they will be cared for emotionally by me and their friends at the day home. The process is more important to me than the product.

I have a 2010 Dodge, 7 passenger van, the children will go to the library, lots of playgrounds, the grocery store, indoor play spaces weekly. They will also come with me to run errands on occasion. I have $1, 000, 000. 00 insurance, a valid class 5 license and a clean driving record. I have proper car seats and booster seats for all children I drive. We sing songs and have fun while we are driving about! There may be possibilities of transporting your child to pre-school if that is important to you, as long as pre-school doesn't disrupt quiet /nap time. I however, cannot do pick ups after school.

There will be a healthy menu posted which includes breakfast, am snack, lunch and pm snack. Most baked items will be baked by your own child and we often have samples to send home : ) I believe that children learn through example. If it takes time to bake and make food, they learn to appreciate it and see what ingredients are fueling their bodies!

The tv will only on during the quiet time periods(first thing in the morning and during nap time). My children have very limited "technology" in this house, so that is certainly not a big focus of our time, I like getting dirty and DOING activities!

When I say, I love family and community, I mean it! ! I value more than anything, what you have to share with me about your children. I will always ask you what works and what I can do differently if something does not work. In my experience when children are stimulated, cared for and counted on for their opinions and idea's, they are generally happy and well-behaved. We will often have families that are in our care, over for dinner, bbq's or pot lucks. This shows the children that their families want to be comfortable and welcome to the home that they spend a great deal of time at!

All children and families will be respected, listened to and problems will be solved in a caring and calm manner. Children may be re-directed if the disagreement cannot be solved quickly, and if they are physically hurting themselves or others they may be put on a "time out. " Which is just that, a short amount of time to calm down, think about and process their actions with me, so they can go back and join in with a fresh perspective.

I will have a full brochure that is extremely clear in all matters that pertain to the day home. This will also include permission waivers for me to administer first aid, medication, transport your child and take and display pictures. I will NOT take any child (even drop-in for one day) if I do not have application and waivers signed.

This is a PRIVATE day home, however tax receipts will be provided and all income will be claimed.

PEANUT BUTTER will be served in the home and we have NO pets, please make me aware of any allergies or special considerations.

I will care for children aged 2 + generally, however, I may be available for drop-in care for 1 year olds and you never know when circumstances change, so just ask! ?

Day rate $50. 00
OSC (am OR pm) $200. 00 + 30. 00 per day for PD days and breaks
OCS (am AND pm) $300. 00 + 20. 00 per day for PD days and breaks
*Out of School care children would have to be dropped off and picked up by someone else or bussed to me as I cannot drive all of the kids in my care at those times and would be waiting for my daughter to arrive on the bus.
