About Animethon

Animethon, operated by ASAPA (Alberta Society for Asian Popular Arts), is the longest running fan-convention for celebrating Japanese anime and culture in Canada, held in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Animethon is held annually in August and draws over 9000 attendees from across Western Canada, and spans multiple city blocks. Animethon also holds a smaller winter event in January that draws over 3500 attendees. Major events includes dances, concerts, and masquerade. Animethon also offers programming such as presentations, video programming, tabletop and console gaming, and contests. Many attendees attend the convention in Cosplay and participate in gatherings of fans for anime and manga series. Many merchants and artists attend Animethon to sell merchandise in the Exhibitors Hall and Artist Alley, with products ranging from games, multimedia, official anime merchandise, and much more. Animethon invites many different guests to perform and present to attendees. In recent years, Animethon held performances by Mika Kobayashi (2017), FLOW (2015), Ladybeard (2016), An Cafe (2014), Kanon Wakeshima (2012), and information panels from Satsuki Yukino (2014).
