About Annex Ale Project

Small microbrewery located in the Barley Belt, Calgary.

Annex Ale Project Description

Annex Ale Project is devoted to good beer and great conversations. We're curious and unconventional and every beer we brew is the result of serious experimentation. For a long time, we've wanted to make the kind of beer that would appeal to beer drinkers and big thinkers. Now that's all we do.

Well, cat can’t stay in the bag forever. We had our buds from Outcast Brewing over to help us make beer. They had never made a sour and we always swore we would never do a milkshake beer. So we made a sour milkshake beer. We also added some tropical island nostalgia kitsch to it for good measure. We are going to be releasing bottles and a cask of Super Slammer on Friday at 3pm. And the way pre-orders have been going, we can pretty much guarantee that growler fills will only be available this weekend. Swing on by the tap room for some enamel peeling boozy fruitsauce on Friday. We can’t wait.

It’s taken a while to get here but we have finally arrived at a New England IPA that we think is worth keeping around for a while. This here’s Force Majeure. It’s double dry hopped with Cryo Mosaic, Bru-1 and Vic Secret. It has this beautiful mango and passionfruit resinous hop punch, cushioned by pillowy oats and Conan yeast. Force Majeure is our own gorgeous tribute to unforeseeable circumstances and acts of godlessness. Like us, it’s neither delicate or subtle. Watch for it in this physical form and others in the coming weeks. As ever, Annex

Four local punk rock legends threw together a new band and we liked them so much we made a beer for ‘em. Territories is releasing their first self-titled album and we are hosting a listening party at the brewery tomorrow (August 10th at 8pm). This here’s Three Minutes Until Midnight. It’s a North American Black Ale, or a Cascadian, or whatever the hell you want to call it. The important part is that it’s as black as your jeans and has a humungo citrus and pine aroma from al...l the Simcoe and Ekaunot we crammed in the dry hop. It also features an assertive chocolate flavour and a roasty finish without being bitter or astringent. Although it’s certainly seasonally inappropriate, it’s also wicked tasty. Come join us tomorrow to listen to Calgary’s coolest new band, and whats probably going to be one of your favourite albums this year. Pints of this beer will be 5 bucks tomorrow night.

Someone very near and dear to us has a little person growing inside of them, and is ready to unleash unto the world. In our family if you rock a dry nine and produce a tiny human then you get to pick the next beer. While we patiently await the arrival of the wee ‘un, here is Labour Party. Comin’ in at 4.6% this is a fruited hazy which was conditioned on excessive amounts of purréed Blood Orange and Pineapple. As requested, its a shandy-esque fruit bomb, it’s all-day crushable and absolutely delish. We have never made anything like this before, and it leaves us wondering why. Best of luck Claire. Pints will be waiting.

We didn’t expect this. And it’s super humbling that it happened. BeerAdvocate has named us one of the 50 of the Best New Breweries in North America of 2017 and it’s pretty stiff competition out there, so this one really means something. Big thanks to Don Tse for the kind words and for all the support from our loyal followers. We will continue pushing ourselves to be better and better.

After a little time off from one another, we have decided to cozy up to New England IPA once again. Nothing says “baby, im sorry” like a double dry hop. This little debutante goes by “Obvious Epiphany”. She has undergone a double dry hop with Mosaic and a new hop we are messing with called Bru-1. She’s all mango, grapefruit, and a touch of mint with some entry level bitterness in the finish. It punches in at an approachable (for us) 6.9%, and it is just really delightful. Also.... HATS! We gots them hats. They come in three different styles, they’ll shade your noodle, and make you look heckin’ cool.

NOW HIRING: BREWER. Yep, that’s right. This throne could be yours. We need someone to join our team to help with day to day production in the brewery. Responsibilities include: wort production, packaging and cellaring. Must have previous experience. Some of the perks? A generous beer allotment, health benefits and a dress code that allows you to wear denim any day you want. Check out the full job description and info on applying in the link in our bio.

User

Went there last night; the place and decor are awesome. Nice atmosphere, we had a great time. The beers are full of flavor. We tried the 5 beer flight and we enjoyed all of them. Be ready for very aromatic hops. Will go back soon

User

We love this place and the employees too . That's the best beer in town !

User

The team at annex is amazing, from their brewmaster down to the people that work in The Tap Room everyone creates a great experience for the customer coming in. This is by far one of my favorite breweries in the entire city

User

The most polished of the newer craft breweries in town, in terms of quality beers and taproom. An absolutely terrific space to taste delicious beers, eat salty snacks, and spin a yarn with lively folk!

User

The brewery is top shelf & leaves many other local breweries, struggling to keep up. The variety of seasonal & small batch beer is frequently changing. If you find one you have to have, make sure you stock up or drink up because something bigger, better, tastier is coming down the pipes and will soon take over its predecessor.

User

The bar has just been raised in YYC craft brewing & tasting room scene! Awesome Ale's in as equal awesome tap room setting.

User

Stopped in on a quick trip through Calgary. Cool modern vibe, with awesome brews on tap and their own Root Beer too! Thank you for the AWESOME hospitality!

User

My new favourite in Calgary! Oat Hefeweizen tastes like a cure for everything! Pineapple Saison so refreshing and calming. IPA so good! All others decent too. And Quinn and Brian are such great bartenders- knowledgeable, friendly and just plain awesome! And yes, nice enterior design.

User

Love the place, and even more important, this is great beer! Wife and I have been there a coupe of times, and we truly like the place, its ambiance is non-pretentious but it doesn't lack good taste! We met Erica, lovely host, open and happy to talk about the brewery. We will be back soon!

User

Great tasting room. Very friendly. Liked that I could buy bottles of different beers to take home and didn't have to fill a growler. Loved the beers. It's a bit pricier that some other tasting rooms but well worth it!

User

Great atmosphere! Damn good beer and really nice staff. Highly recommend. Hidden jem and asset to Calgary.

User

Fun atmosphere, and thoughtful, well rounded beer. A great experience!

User

Fantastic brewery, great vibe in the taproom and probably some of the best revolving brews in the province! I've enjoyed everything I've had from them, and I cannot thank them enough for being a part of my Sage Hill launch growler bar project. Go check it out, you'll really enjoy it!

User

Fantastic beers, a gorgeous tap room, and some amazing growlers. This is a place that you need to check out if you love good beer!

User

Did the barley belt tour and this was by far my favorite spot!

User

Best brewery I've been to! Flavourful beers, amazing service and a very cool space to hang out. Annex offers a flavourful and one-of-a-kind experience you can't get anywhere else in the city. Great work, Annex!

User

An exceptional destination taproom/brewery created by the dynamic duo of Andrew Bullied and Erica O'Gorman. The taproom pays attention to design and is light, whimsical and just plain fun. If you are looking for a place where the awesome beers are even bigger and bolder than the personalities of the brewery founders, then this is that place. Can't wait to return - the first visit there was WAY too much fun. Cheers!

User

A delightfully bright and open tasting room with natural light flowing in the floor to ceiling wall of windows. The decor matches the bright clean vibrant beers that Erica and Andrew skillfully craft right behind the wall of taps. Find out when brew days are and enjoy a flight as the aromas of cooking malt and hops amplify the experience.

User

The root beer is even worth getting there . It's want me to put 50 letters down so now I'm writing random ass stuff because I can't just put what I wanted to . And if I wanted to post what I wanted to then I would not have been able to so yeah that's awesome . Yes well I hope it let's me post this now OK bye .
