Apeetogosan was incorporated in 1984 as an initiative of the MNAA to create an economic developmental tool to provide small business loans and advisory services to Métis entrepreneurs. The original funding was provided by the Canadian Aboriginal Economic Development Strategy (CAEDS) program with the shares of the corporation being held in trust for the MNAA. Apeetogosan now operates as a self-sufficient financial institution without any further operating subsidies.

The operations of Apeetogosan are guided by an experienced Board of Directors. Their primary responsibilities are to ensure that Apeetogosan fulfills its mandate to foster Métis businesses as well as ensuring that the corporation remains a viable and profitable entity.
Since the first loan was processed in 1988, the Apeetogosan staff have processed over 800 small business loans to help Métis entrepreneurs throughout the Province of Alberta. Over $35, 000, 000 has been advanced to a variety of small business start-ups that include companies linked to the oil and gas industry, forestry, transportation, as well as manufacturing and high tech. Funding is available to eligible entrepreneurs for establishing, acquiring, or expanding profitable commercially viable enterprises. While many of our clients require financing in excess of $100, 000, we have helped numerous home based operators with loans as low as $5, 000.

We encourage an open line of communication with our clients and realize that there may be incidences where our clients may find themselves in financial difficulties. It is our mandate to work with our clients and to try and overcome the problems encountered in the day-to-day operation of a business.
