About Automobile Insurance Rate Board

In 2004, the President of Treasury Board and Minister of Finance and the Government of Alberta established the Automobile Insurance Rate Board (AIRB) as an independent regulator through the Insurance Act. In this capacity, the AIRB is responsible for regulating automobile insurance rating programs in Alberta. The AIRB, through its functions and statutory duties and responsibilities, serves all Albertans — the public, industry and government. In addition, the AIRB must exercise and perform any other powers and duties assigned to it by the Minister or prescribed by regulations.
