Hands down a horrible experience here. Took my two daughters to Avalon for back to school haircuts, wanted to make it a fun experience for them. Phoned ahead to make sure they would do a kids cut, was told it was no problem at all. Had a younger guy cut my 9 year olds hair, he was super nice and personable, really put her at ease, but left her with a pretty crappy haircut. She wanted a short angled bob from her long hair. She loved it, but the back was choppy and uneven, looked like I had cut it myself with kitchen scissors. An older man, presumably the owner, cut my 6 year olds hair. He was really nice to me (38 year old male), but made her stand in the middle of the salon while he cut her hair. Kept offering me a seat, offering me tea and wanting to talk business with me, but flat out ignored my wife when she asked for tea, or when she tried to give feedback or requests on her daughters haircut. All this for $100. No problem with the price, but I was hoping for a salon experience for that amount of money, not the family-run sideshow that I got to witness. If you're going to run a back alley barbershop, price accordingly.

The owner is a great barber and one of the best in Canada, he has competition certifications to prove it! Always great company to get a haircut from and a personal friend of mine. Top recommendation for a salon in the city with kind and thorough service.

I have been reading the reviews and most of them are rightly extremely positive. There are a few negative ones which is not surprising, as some people are never satisfied, no matter what. Here is my experience with Avalon. I have been getting my hair done there for about 15 years now. I get a cut, colour, streaks and style (that I wish I could duplicate when I wash my hair!). Mike, his wife, his son and other staff there are true professionals and they are always friendly, courteous and polite. They are wonderful at making suggestions and what I really appreciate about them is that they listen to what I want and they explain what works best and why. They take the time to do so without rushing. They also give great styling tips. They are not satisfied unless their customers are fully satisfied. They are a rare gem in Calgary. I have been to many salons in my day, from coast to coast, and Avalon is by far the very best! In addition, their salon has a lovely, comfortable ambiance. I HIGHLY recommend Avalon.

I recently made a hair appointment with Mike, who I had never seen before, after trying to bleach my own hair at home. I'll start by saying that I have bleached my hair by myself before and it came out really nice so I thought I would try again but this time my hair was much longer and darker than before. I used three boxes if bleach and my hair turned bright orange, yellow in some spots, and with lots of dark patches throughout. So to say the least it was a bit of an emergency. I told Mike at the start of the appointment that I was really hoping for a light ash blonde colour, but with the damage I had just done to my hair he said it was unlikely. This man is a magician I swear. Not only did he get me the colour I wanted, the service was incredible, friendly, and extremely attentive, I have minimal damage to my hair and it looks amazing. I highly recommend coming here for your colouring. If I could give 10 stars I would!

New to Calgary and needed a massive hair makeover. Wasn't sure where to go, so I googled and found this place with tons of great reviews.. and it was close to my new place. So I booked an appt and got in days later. I needed a trim and new hair style. Mike was amazing! He gave me advice on how to get my hair healthy again, and gave me a great cut that made my hair look thick and full... it hasn't looked this good in years. I'll be coming back. Mike and his team were awesome

I always used to jump around for men's haircuts until I found Avalon. They are really reasonably priced and better yet they do a great job! They've won a ton of awards and it shows in the work they do. Mike (the owner) is a great guy and him and his son and the rest of their staff do a fantastic job. Highly, highly recommend trying out Avalon!!!

Avalon truly redefines 'salon'. With internationally trained hair stylists (renowned locally, and abroad), and decades of experience, I've never left here dissatisfied, or felt like I'm just another number they're trying to push through the door.

I notice that not just myself, but all the other clients really having their wants and concerns listened to, AND met; and that's because the staff at this place, aside from having great communication skills, genuinely value the relationships they're making with the clients.

And when it comes down to hairdressing skills, Hassan's expertise ranges from layering, colouring, texturing, and extensions to solid old-school & modern barber techniques like fading and tapering. Literally everything; this place is awesome!
Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for an excellent salon experience.

Before I found Avalon I used to hate getting my hair cut because it would always look terrible for a couple of weeks until it grew out for a while. Something weird about my head pattern I guess, because I found this happened even when I tried going to many different salons and stylists, even after repeated visits. First time I tried Avalon and Mike cut my hair, the problem was fixed. He knew how to fix it without me even telling him there was a problem. I thought it was just his own skill but when Mike has been away I have had cuts a couple of times from other Avalon staff trained by Mike, and great results every time, so I keep coming back for years and years. So hats off and tipped to Mike and the rest of the staff at Avalon - for skills, service, and style it is a great place to go.
