Bach 2 Basics

Whether you are young or an adult, novice or experienced, piano lessons are available through JCC and Hanna Primary schools in RCM and other programmes

In addition to working primarily with the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) curriculum, I also can draw upon Bastien, Boris Berlin and Alfred for students of all ages. An individualized approach is always taken with lessons including innovative approaches to learning and performance:

* building a practical music vocabulary and understanding of musical structure through combining engaging, music appreciation with music theory, drawing upon selections from the Naxos Music Library (see below) while introducing the new RCM 2016 /17 Theory Syllabus and elements of functional tonality in a hands-on and interactive manner.

* emphasis from the start on proper biomechanics for effortless and optimal playing, thereby minimizing possibility of repetitive strain injuries (based on 20 years of clinical practice /training as a physical therapist)

* usage of iOS and Android apps to support music study in a fun way for younger students as well as ear training (pitch and rhythm) for all

* a paid-subscription to the Petrucci Music Library with immediate access to more than 360, 000 scores and manuscripts, including countless out-of-print ones

* a paid-subscription to the Naxos Music Library with its ~1. 9 million tracks on ~167, 000 CDs and 1, 000 new releases added each month. These can be streamed through either iOS or Android apps as well as through the website via one's computer.

* comprehensive notes and dialogue with parents and students for each lesson, addressing elements of each piece which a students is learning (dynamics, tempi, articulation, fingering, and analysis to accelerate deliberate and more effortless practice)

* drawing upon 75 different books of exercises, tailored to the needs of each student for each piece

About me (Andrew Waldie): I have been living in Hanna for the past six and a half years now, working at my practice, Hanna Trigger Point Therapy, as a physical therapist. In terms of music, I am in Grade 9 of the RCM and am committed to pursuing full ARCT training, including having attended the RCM Summer Summit (August 26-27, 2017) in Calgary this year for western Canada, dedicated to pedagogy and the new 2016 /17 theory syllabus and online resources for teaching.
