Banff Sunshine Village Description

Home to Canada’s Best Snow and three sprawling mountains that provide distinct, uninterrupted views, Banff Sunshine Village sits on the continental divide allowing you to ski and snowboard in both Alberta and BC at the same time. Located 8km west of Banff, Sunshine proudly offers the longest non-glacial season in Canada (from early November until late May).

Banff Sunshine is a prime location for skiers and snowboarders to spend an entire weekend at Banff’s only ski-in, ski-out hotel the Sunshine Mountain Lodge. With more than 3, 300 acres of diverse terrain, Sunshine is proud to feature runs ranging from easy greens to challenging double blacks, giving options for skiers and snowboarders of all experience levels to both choose from and challenge themselves on.

The Snow School offers quality ski and snowboard lessons for all-ages and comfort levels, from never-evers to double-black diamond runners, along with Rocky Mountain Adaptive lessons that encourage those with accessibility needs to get up on the hill.

For riders comfortable on double black terrain, Sunshine Village offers two extreme freeride zones: Delirium Dive, voted one of the world’s top 15 runs by CNN, and The Wild West. It is mandatory for all skiers and snowboarders wishing to ride both freeride zones that they are equipped with an Avalanche Pack. All guests must wear an Avi Transceiver, be carrying a probe and shovel, ride with a buddy, and have avalanche /snow safety knowledge.

What can I tell you about Sunshine. Where my children learned to ski,... It is a very special place. I have skied there for over 40 years, had I moved here before 1976, it would be for longer. Where else can you ski in early November and July 1st on real snow the same season in the Northern Hemisphere, moreover, not, on a glacier! In knee deep powder in early November or May! Winter stays a long time up here, come see for yourself, it will be worth it!

User

What a beautiful massive ski resort, would’ve loved to see more of an actual village at the slope side base, but I’m certainly not complaining.

User

We were blown away by the friendliness of the instructors, management, and staff! Sunshine Village has such a quaint feeling but so many runs and lifts, and perfect for families. If you need adult lessons or someone that is great with kids, ask for Robbie. So incredibly helpful! Also, try lunch at Eagle’s Nest - SO good!

We are so glad we made the trek to the Canadian Rockies, we will definitely come back to Sunshine.

User

The Scurfield Family are the Canadian Crowleys (the family that owns Wachusett Mountain rated by ski magazine #20 in the Eastern US). The love of skiing comes thru with every interaction with the amazing staff. “We want you back! And often!” Seems to be the song in everyone’s head there. As for the clientele, I’ve never met so many instant friends. Rock on, Sunshine. See you again soon and often!

User

Superb resort, excellent staff team all over the mountain! Canada’s Finest 😁

User

Just got back from an awesome trip to Sunshine Village. I stayed up at the slope-side lodge where the staff were incredibly helpful. Karam at the front desk had a mishap with my luggage and took care of it immediately, kudos to him. Go see Alex and Tyson at the Mad Trapper bar for some apres beers, they are very friendly and run a tight ship. For opening weekend the snow was pretty good, 5 lifts open, had some powder turns on the first few runs and lots of groomers to explore. Certainly another storm or two and the place will be able to open more great terrain. The breakfast at the Chimney was fantastic, nice work on the hollandaise/poached egg combo to sous chef John. The staff you encounter at every turn are super helpful and ready to accommodate, my favorite moment was overhearing a waitress at Chimney comment to a guest, "We are really lucky to work here." That comment was so refreshing to hear in this day and age. Will definitely be back!

User

I’d snowboard here over mountains in Colorado any day. Had so much fun here this past Friday and Monday. It helps if you know what trails to hit and when.

User

It was Awesome!!! We were on the first Gondola and skied until the lifts stopped! I can’t wait to come back!

User

I love love love. Much better skiing than lake Louise

User

Great service of ski patrols and ski instructors. A ski Instructor helped me right away as he saw that I need help and called a ski patrol. It took them not even 1 minute to get to my place. Awesome Job guys and thank you.

User

Great people working at this place,, awesome instructors, everyone was extremely helpful, had the best time ever. Need more training for snowboarding but the skiing was better than ever. Hope to make it an annual event somehow. Took a while to thaw out after the winds on the lift, it was a classic winter day in one of best spots to ski on planet earth, thanks again everyone

User

Exceptional staff & beautiful surroundings. My favorite place in the world.

User

Bree absolutely killed it and gave me a ride on a skidoo to go get to the goats eye base and save the day. I think I’m in love

User

Amazing. Loved every minute of our ski holiday at sunshine. Cannot recommend the kids ski program highly enough... our children have skied at other resorts but have come along leaps and bounds with the sunshine instructors and have had such a great time!! Thank you reike and kurt!!!!

User

Amazing treatment from the Ski Patrol and Medi Center Doctor.

I unfortunately dislocated my shoulder on the weekend which obviously sucks but the Ski Patrol and Doctor made the bad experience as good as it could have been.

If you’re going to ski like an idiot and hurt yourself, Sunshine is the place to do it.

User

Absolutely awesome experience today, there is so much here to ski, at so many levels, loved it.

User

Would be great for skiing but not much for snowboarding.

User

Big FAIL Sunshine, I purchased a 2 day lift ticket to be used over 3 days online, I must have missed the fine print about the gondola, my son went to visit friends Friday late day at your hotel on the mountain, not knowing you would scan his ticket and then it would be no good to use to snowboarding Sunday. When getting on the gondola your staff never mentioned or questioned a lift ticket that is only 2 days being scanned at 4:30 in the afternoon. There was no information posted about this on your website that I purchased the ticket from. And when I talk to your staff I basically told sorry about your luck. So it cost me about 230.00 for my kid to snowboard at your resort for 2 days and that was your friends and family rate. It would have been cheaper to just buy lift tickets at the mountain. Frustrating,

User

This is the worst mountain I have ever been to. I’ve been to some pretty horrible mountains before too.

Are you a skier? Then ignore this post, you’ll probably enjoy the mountain.

As a snowboarder visiting from Washington state, I felt entirely alienated and treated poorly by fellow mountain goers- specifically the skiers. They cut me off without notifying me, deliberately turned in front of me when there were other options, didn’t warn when passing and were generally very distasteful. As I got off of a lift, a school of skiers being taught by the mountain literally passed in front of me, and I had to force myself to crash to avoid taking out 5 15 year olds, who proceeded to laugh as I skidded across the ice.

Go to lake Louise if you visit the region. It’s a much better option and they actually have terrain instead of a giant flat run covered in ice labeled as a Black diamond that could easily be a blue or green run.

I unfortunately dislocated my shoulder on the weekend which obviously sucks but the Ski Patrol and Doctor made the bad experience as good as it could have been.

If you’re going to ski like an idiot and hurt yourself, Sunshine is the place to do it.

Absolutely awesome experience today, there is so much here to ski, at so many levels, loved it.

Would be great for skiing but not much for snowboarding.
