About Bear Lake Canuck Historical Society
Canuck School is a one-room schoolhouse in the Peace River area. It operated until 1955. Today people can book a tour and experience Canadian history
Bear Lake Canuck Historical Society Description
One-room schoolhouse available to schools, families and individuals to tour during the warm months. Outdoor washroom available. Running water available at adjacent provincial campground.
Learn about the story of the one-room country school from its beginnings in 1918 to its closure in 1955 and witness its remarkable restoration by a determined group of alumni. Their school, once the heart of the community, had become a mouse-infested granary in a farmer's field. The project to move and restore it as a centre with historical designation has taken nearly a quarter century at a cost in excess of $25, 000. Hear accounts of former students and teachers and their stories. Enjoy looking at the collection of books, photographs and memorbilia and even using the old fashioned outdoor plumbing.
If you'd like to book a tour, please leave a brief post and a committee member will be in contact shortly.
