Many people forgo the mental training that is necessary for competition. Though you're mind is not a muscle, it is a vital component for competitive athletes. Your brain has the ability to rewire - known as neuroplasticity.
In Mindset Training Strategies for Competitive Athletes, Coach Matt Connolly, suggests 7 critical elements that must be present for mental training.

"The key to success lies not in avoiding negative thoughts, but in what action you take in those negative moments." - Kyle Williams
Everyone has negative thoughts. I mean EVERYONE! No one is positive 100% of the time, no matter what their external appearance is telling you. The ability to turn those negative thoughts into positive action is where it's at. Did you know that sport-related anxiety can: 1) have a negative impact on sport performance during practice and competition. 2) lead to increased risk of injury occurrence. 3) delay and obstruct injury rehabilitation and the return to sport process. 4) increase subsequent reinjury risk during post-rehabilitation practice and competitions.
... This research article dives deeper into the negative implications that may arise around sport-related anxiety. It's worth a read! https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/…/PMC56677 …/pdf/oajsm-8-205.pdf

This is quite an amazing place! I left a box in E-town almost 5 yrs ago. I stayed away from Crossfit for a variety of reasons, one of which was because i didn't feel I could find the same "family" atmosphere. Man, was I wrong. The folks at Bedrock have created a special place where anyone can feel comfortable. Whats more, my whole family is now participating and loving it! Whenever I am in town I look forward to showing up, working hard and enjoying every bit about the place - thanks for making this place what it is! I highly recommend it to anyone and would gladly pay for a drop in for any one of my friends that wants to check it out.

User

The coaches at Bedrock are so knowledgeable and welcoming. Scale the workouts appropriately to maximize benefit and minimize injury. It's rekindled my love for fitness. I especially love that I can bring my son to the morning workouts with complimentary child minding! He loves it there as much as I do.

User

Lovely people, nice roomy Box, super professional coaching.

What's not to like?

User

If you’re anything like me the thought of Crossfit is intimidating, the idea of working out with a bunch of incredibly fit people scares the daylights out of you. Bedrock is the furthest thing from an intimidating, scary atmosphere. The coaching is amazing, everything can (and will!) be scaled to your specific abilities and goals. The gym itself is bright and clean, an overall great facility. The community is encouraging and supportive. I have never been one to be motivated to get myself to the gym but Bedrock has changed that – I’ve seen incredibly improvements in my strength, my body and probably most importantly, my mentality. I would recommend Bedrock to anyone!

User

I've been with bedrock for a year and I can't stop bragging to my friends and co workers about it. This gym has changed my life for the best. I was a stay at home mom with three kids, feeling down and over weight. I contacted Dawn and she welcome me with open arms. All the coaches are amazing and so positive and encouraging for anyone wanting to reach a goal. I admit I was afraid I wouldn't be able to keep up or do any of the workouts, but the coach can scale anything to help anyone get a good workout and injury free. If your looking for a positive supporting environment with childcare! Bedrock is the place!

User

I've been with Bedrock for a year and a half. From the moment I walked in, I knew this gym was not just a "gym". The kindness and positive energy flows down from the owner to each and every member. The members are friendly smiling faces who all support each other (a lot of high fives happening!). The instructors and owner truly care about safety and your overall well being. Cardio junkie? No problem! There is a lot of variety here with circuit style classes and rowing. Not feeling fit enough for a cross fit class? Feeling Intimidated? Not to worry, there are no egos here and no judgement - you can scale your workouts up or down. The instructors will help you through any challenges and always will find an alternative exercise for you if you can't quite get a certain movement. Highly recommend this gym. Definitely a place where you feel at home.

User

I tried out crossfit to mix up my long distance running training. I tried a different CF gym and was thrown in the deep end. The energy and atmosphere were nice but lack of coaching combined an enthusiastic athlete extremely lacking in technique led to sadly predictable results. I ended up having to take time off from running, two steps backwards! It took some recommendations from friends and a meeting with coaches Dawn and Slywia to convince me to give it another shot. Their foundations program gave me the environment I needed to pick up technique, assess some strengths and weaknesses, and further my running goals. Once past the first month of foundations the work out intensity increased, at a self directed pace with individual coaching attention that borders on personal training. The focus of the workouts has replaced hours of running and yielded impressive results on race day.

User

I struggle a lot with depression, and was in a car accident in November, although unrelated; CrossFit has helped me deal with both!! I feel back to my normal self, and my injuries are no longer holding me back. Becoming much fitter, healthier and having amazing coaches, in a super supportive atmosphere has also curbed a lot of the depression. 🤗

User

I just finished the Foundations course and I'm hooked! This is a fun, supportive place to go get your butt kicked into shape :) can't wait for what's to come!

User

I just finished my foundations and I loved it. The coaches are great with working at your fitness level and encourage you to use proper technique. I urge anyone who is considering Bedrock Crossfit to join.

User

I have been with Bedrock for almost a year now, and I am the fittest I have been in my life. Bedrock is an awesome box -- very friendly & supportive environment and great coaches. The coaches focus on proper mechanics, movement, form and safety. Our athlete-to-coach ratio is very low, so you get close personal attention. I love that I can track my fitness progress through their online app, with benchmarks, PRs, times and workouts listed.

User

I have been going to classes for over a year now. I attend the morning classes that provide complimentary child care (I have a 3yo). I really love my gym experience there. The coaches, Dawn, Sylwia and Deon, are fantastic. Specifically, they do a good job of explaining how exercises should be done and if I don't think I'm doing it right help me figure out how to get there. Also on the times that I have come in with minor injuries or concerns they are very knowledgeable about how exercises can be modified to accommodate it. However should you ever find yourself in the odd situation of things needing to be harder, they know how to do that too!

User

I have been a member of a few different Crossfit/Crosstraining gyms over the past couple of years. Bedrock is by far the best and I have only been a member for a short period. Very nice facility, clean, nice outside space when its warm, excellent coaches who strive for results and safety in lifting and proper technique. well done, highly recommended.

User

I have been a member here for just over a year and I couldn't be happier. The coaches are knowledgeable and get to know the strengths and weaknesses of each member, and coach accordingly. If you are thinking of trying out Crossfit, I highly recommend this gym.

User

I dropped in while in town for work during the OPEN and was welcomed like an everyday member by both owners and members. Clean facility, great spirit and knowledgable coaches. Thanks for having me, gang.

User

I am totally impressed with Bedrock CrossFit, since joining in Nov 2016, based on the recommendation of friends. As a former rugby player turned runner I had a lot of small but nagging injuries, that required "tune ups" at the chiro a few times a month. My plan was to do the Foundations class to take a break from winter running for a month, and then go back to my usual. After my first class I was hooked- THIS was what my body needed. One hour a few times a week and I have seen more gains in strength and overall fitness than I have in years of running/swimming/yoga/spin. It is major bang for your (time) buck. Bonus: my running times are way faster AND I haven't needed any chiro "tune ups" so far (almost 3 months). I am super appreciative of the attentiveness of the coaches as they scale the workouts to suit my body's quirks and are diligent on supervising form. I can push my limit without risking new injury or aggravating old ones. It truly is a community, the coaches and members are so supportive and friendly- so happy to be a part of it! I have been telling anyone who will listen about BedRock and I'm just getting started!

Great gym with excellent coaching. The space is clean and has great amenities as well as in house massage and nutritional counselling. I appreciate the child minding so i can workout while my kids play!

Bedrock is truly an inspiring gym! The coaches are amazing and knowledgeable! The atmosphere is welcoming and make you feel like a part of family that inspires each other towards better health and fitness.

As an athlete with a disability (adaptive athlete), typical fitness facilities were unable to meet my adaptive needs and support the goals that I had. I was welcomed into the Bedrock community from the time I entered the gym and it has been an incredible year and a half of fitness, fun, hard work, and personal records and improvement. The coaches at the gym support and strengthen the abilities I have, but also challenge me on my weaknesses. Since I have started I have noticed improvement in strength, flexibility, mobility, and balance. These changes are noticed in my adaptive sports, such as wheelchair basketball, and in my life. This last week I was able to hold my 3 year old cousin (with no supports) and was able to sit down with him, while holding him. All of the coaches and staff are incredible and support an incredible community.
