About Bowness High School

Bowness High School is a public school in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, which teaches grades 10 through 12. It is operated by the Calgary Board of Education. The school was founded in 1956 as a junior and senior high school to serve the town of Bowness. In 1964 the town was annexed by Calgary. No longer having a junior high component, the school now serves several Calgary communities in addition to Bowness. Some of the programs of the school include the CTS department and RAP. Bowness has an award-winning band program. As well the school has a special partnership with Imperial Oil, which helps in certain areas, such as science and math. The school's Trojan's football team made national headlines in 2004 when a player named Tyler Zeer, died during practice. At the time, it was only the third such fatality in the 92-year history of the Calgary Senior High School Athletic Association. The 1986 BMX movie Rad was filmed here. There is no mention of Bowness in the film.
