The primary reason I decided to become a Mortgage Professional started way back when I was in high school. Back then I worked at the local service station in a small Alberta farm town my family has lived in since about 1905. My father and grandfather owned several service stations and other service companies since the 1950's. Naturally I followed in their footsteps. It always stuck with me that the value of treating a potential customer selflessly was not easily monetized. You did things for them because that is how you built trust and future clients. You may never know how it comes back to you, but you just trust that it will. I remember working evenings at that service station and a customer would come in with a burned-out headlight in their car. Most people did not have the tools to replace the light in their car, so I would just install it for them… before they paid. When it came time to pay, they were only charged for the bulb, not the installation! To me that is what we are missing society in today, somewhere along the line someone saw the installation as having a cost to them and a value to the customer and started charging for it. Back then we didn't have a name for it, but it was the right thing to do. Today if we do it, we think it's a new concept… paying it forward! It's not new… it's customer service! That should be how your Mortgage Professional assists you in what is arguably the biggest purchase of your life… provide the assistance in finding you the best product for your situation regardless of whether you can proceed at that time. When it does, the Mortgage Professional will be compensated accordingly!
