Calfrac Well Services (Official)

An API Q2 certified company, Calfrac provides pressure pumping, coiled tubing and cementing services designed to help increase oil and gas production.

Since its start up in 1999, Calfrac has grown organically and through opportunistic and strategic acquisitions. Geographic expansion has been selective and includes entry into both conventional and unconventional oil and gas markets.

Over the years, Calfrac expanded operations from its first base in Canada to include the United States, Russia and Latin America. Each entry was made possible by bringing on experience but local management teams.

1999
- Calfrac begins operations in Calgary, Canada
- First field service performed was a coiled tubing job in the Medicine Hat, Canada area

2000
- Presence established in central Alberta to serve the Cardium, Duvernay and Viking plays
- New spread of hydraulic fracturing equipment is built to stimulate shallow natural gas wells

2002
- Calfrac enters the United States with the opening of a regional office in Denver, Colorado and a field office in Platteville, Colorado to serve the DJ Basin

2003
- Service offering expands to include Cementing and Acidizing
- Large diameter mast-style coiled tubing rig completed and revolutionizes shallow gas fracturing
- First quintuplex nitrogen pumper designed to fracture natural gas from coal is developed by Calfrac and added to fleet

2004
- Calfrac becomes a publicly traded company on the Toronto Stock Exchange
- Calfrac reduces footprint at the wellsite with the addition of a combination blender-pumper

2005
- Calfrac enters Russia to provide coiled tubing services to a major Russian oil and gas operator
- Expansion in the US continues with district operations established to serve the Piceance and Uintah Basins

2006
- First multi-stage hydraulic fracturing treatment of a horizontal well is completed in the Fayetteville Basin

2007
- Calfrac expands its focus to include the unconventional market with entry into the Duvernay and Horn River basins
- Calfrac expands to Latin America with entry into Mexico
- Acquisition of a chemical company allows Calfrac to bring chemical R& D requirements in-house

2008
- Expansion within Latin America continues with entry into the cementing market in Argentina

2009
- Calfrac continues to grow with two important acquisitions that added an additional 115, 000 hydraulic horsepower to its fleet
- Calfrac enters the Marcellus Shale play and the Cardium Light Oil play

2010
- A district office is opened in North Dakota to serve the Bakken play

2012
- First horizontal multi-stage hydraulic fracturing job is completed in Mexico
- Calfrac begins horizontal multi-stage hydraulic fracturing jobs in Russia
- The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) recognizes Calfrac founders Doug Ramsay and Ron Mathison with the Ramsay Centre for Petroleum Engineering Technology and the Mathison Drilling and Geosciences Lab

2013
- Calfrac acquires the assets of Mission Well Services and enters the Eagle Ford Basin
- Calfrac’s fleet reaches 1 million horsepower
- Doug Ramsay announces his retirement as Calfrac CEO and is succeeded by Fernando Aguilar
- Calfrac launches its Employee Responsibility Training, an online and hands-on field training program

2015
- Calfrac becomes the first pressure pumping company to receive the American Petroleum Institute’s Specification Q2
- Six Calfrac locations in North America become certified under API Q2 and ISO 9001

2016
- Calfrac closes the year with TRIF at 1. 16
- A seventh North America location becomes certified under API Q2
- Calfrac’s sand terminals increases to 13 and North American sand storage reaches 140k US tons
