Huge congratulations to Calgary Opera volunteer, Carol Dann, who was recently honoured with the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers, a national award honouring exceptional volunteers from across the country. Carol was also the recipient of the Harry & Martha Cohen Award last year for her significant and sustained contribution to the Calgary theatre community. There will be a ceremony at the Betty Awards on Monday, June 25th where Carol will receive her medal.
Carol is a supersta...r volunteer in the city. She not only volunteers her time to Calgary Opera, but to practically every non-profit organization in the city (and sometimes further afield!). To name but a few: Alberta Theatre Projects, Theatre Calgary, Vertigo Theatre, Ghost River Theatre, Calgary Philharmonic, Salvation Army, STARS, Rainbow Society, Ronald McDonald House, Make a Wish, Kids Cancer Care, Children’s Hospital, Cancer Society, Parkinson’s Society. Sometimes, she doesn’t know who she’s volunteering for, she just gets the call they need an extra hand at a casino or something, and she goes.
Carol, THANK YOU and congratulations from your friends at Calgary Opera.

Turandot was glorious! The singing, set, design, chorus, orchestra -- all superb!

User

Turandot has to be one of the best Opera's that I have ever witnessed. Memorizing!

User

Turandot performance was absolutely outstanding, beautiful love ❤️ story.

Took our boys (8 & 10) to see Cinderella on Saturday. What a lovely performance to introduce the next generation to this beautiful art form. They loved it!

User

South Pacific was fantastic. Wonderful performance in a beautiful venue at Enmax Park. Well done Calgary Opera :)

My favourite opera so far. Beautiful set, costumes and voices!!!

I had the pleasure of attending this little known opera as a late birthday present and I found it breathtaking and inspiring.

Aline Kutan was a wonderful Lakmè. My wife and I kept going on how wonderful her voice control was. Ryan Macpherson did a marvellous job of complimenting the Prima Donna. It must be noted that there are times when Ryan could have overshadowed her performance, but he did not. Aline and Ryan were a wonderful team.

Valerian Ruminaki was great as well and oh what a voice! His final reaction at the End of Act 1 as Lakmè's father made me yearn for more and to see what was going to happen next.

Kevin Myers worked Hadji as a fantastic strong silent type character, and I look forward to what else he can and will do in the years to come.

Andrea Hill as Mallika sung so delightfully and masterfully as she joined Aline in the immortal "Flower Duet" seducing the audience into to dream of jasmine and floral boughs.

David Diston as Fredric is the kind of best friend every man needs, Chelsea Van Pelt (Rose) and Andrea Núñez (Ellen) were fun and added musical delight, and Jennifer Sproule properly convinced me that Mistress Bentson needed a hug.

I could go on on how wonderful this mix of ballet, philharmonic and acting were on opening night, but I think that you get the picture.

Lakmè must be back for the 2016-2017 season so many more people can learn about this wonderful and tragic story of love, duty and loss.

First time for my 2 year old at the opera with Cinderella, it was great and he really got engaged and enjoyed it. Thanks for the affordable prices and great production. The after performance entertainment was Pretty good too. I only Miss the option to avoid to pay parking at your previous location, I don't mind walking but my 72 y/o mom can't. It was the price of an extra ticket to pay for parking.

Ambur Braid as Tosca was wonderful! And who doesn't love a story where everyone dies at the end ;)

User

none of us can choose where we shall love.........
