Wine of the Day: Chateau Montelena Chardonnay 2014
If you've seen the movie "Bottle Shock", you know that the famous Judgment of Paris pitted American wines against prestigious French wines in a blind tasting. To the shock of many (and horror, for some) Chateau Montelena outscored all 4 of the White Burgundies.
And how does the 2014 vintage stand up? From WIne Enthusiast: "This is a dreamy creamy white founded in stony mineral and juicy acidity that shows a mix of baked apple, pineapple and melon. A tease of green olive provides a briny, salty edge to its tense balance. A lingering hint of vanilla oak figures prominently on the lengthy floral finish."

Wine of the Day - 2013 Zorzal Eggo "Tinto de Tiza"
Zorzal is a winery that is familiar to many Calgarians.
This 2013 Zorzal Eggo Tinto de Tiza is predominantly Malbec but with touches of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
... Fermentation and aging takes place in ovoid-shaped containers (EGGS) made of cement, hence the name, EGGO. The lack of oak in the wine-making process results in refreshing acidity, clean fruit and aromas of citrus. The colour is a deep and rich red with hints of violet.

Wine of the Day - 2015 Louis Jadot Bourgogne Chardonnay
Chardonnay's true home is Burgundy and Louis Jadot's Bourgogne Blanc is a complex wine with aromas of citrus and white flowers and vibrant flavours of fresh peach, pear and grapefruit. The wine is partially fermented and aged in oak casks to add a rich, round character.
Enjoy this wine with poultry, seafood or vegetables.

Wine of the Day - JL Chave Selection Saint-Joseph Offerus 2013
Wine Spectator gave this wine 93 points and had this to say: "Dark and vinous, featuring blackberry, black currant and plum fruit melded with smoldering charcoal and singed bay leaf notes. The long finish echoes with dark tea, fruit and charcoal details. A strong showing for the vintage."

Wine of the Day - 2008 Guado al Tasso
One of the many superb wines from the Antinori Family, Guado al Tasso is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and occasionally a small amount of Petit Verdot to best represent the complexity and elegance of the Bolgheri terroir.
... "Tasting Notes - On the nose the wine shows elegant notes of toasted oak, coffee,and spices followed by aromas of plums and black currants. On the palate, the initial impact is soft but firm with a vein of acidity which gives greater freshness and crispness than usual. The tannins are extremely elegant and the aftertaste is very persistent, with sustained and lingering notes of the coffee, berryfruit,and toasted oak first perceived on the nose. It is a vintage with a great aging potential."

The Princesses have been busy practicing their songs while our Superheroes are flexing their muscles. The staff at Calgary Petroleum Club are prepping the kitchen to make sure the food is delicious, and decorating the ballroom so everything is in tip top shape for our guests.

Wine of the Day - 2011 Bodegas Muga "Selección Especial" Reserva Rioja
A fairly recent addition to our Wine Cellar this is from one of my favourite wineries in Rioja. Complex and elegant aromas enhance the silky-smooth flavours of plum, blackberry and liquorice. Drink this with grilled red meat.

Wine of the Day: 2001 & 2002 Shafer "Hillside Select" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon
Two 100-pointers from our cellar that are just now coming into their own.

... "The 2001 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select is the first of these back-to-back perfect wines from Shafer that, at age 13, is still a baby, but, wow, what an amazing wine. A fabulous growing season produced a wine with inky/purple black color, stunning crème de cassis notes, with additional hints of lead pencil shavings, spring flowers, cedar wood and forest floor. It is full-bodied, sensationally concentrated, with a seamless integration of acidity, tannin, wood and alcohol. This is a great, monumental Napa Cabernet Sauvignon that is still an infant, at age 13, going on 14. This has got at least three decades of life left in it, and probably won’t hit its peak for another 5-7 years." (RP) (12/2014)

Wine Of The Day: 2006 MR de Compostella
“With MR De Compostella, we set out to achieve consistent, world-class quality wine every vintage. To do this, we ensured that the five Bordeaux varieties that we cultivate – namely Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and of course, our speciality, Cabernet Franc – are planted in the soil they are each best suited to. This results in a lot of small parcels in our vineyards – sometimes there will be a row or two of Cabernet Sauvignon in the far left corner of that vineyard, or some Malbec in the very specific right hand corner of this one. It’s not exactly practical, but it’s the only way we can make magic happen,” explains Bruwer.

Wine of the Day - 2015 Domaine Laroche Les Vaudevey Chablis Premier Cru
Vaudevey is a cool terroir with a rocky topsoil that gives the wine a wide range of lively and mineral aromas. Located in a cool and narrow valley the sun appears in early morning and lasts until mid-afternoon. The slow ripening helps aromas to concentrate and acidity to be kept. Just what you want and expect in a Premier Cru Chablis.
Pair this wine with oysters, seafood and smoked salmon - or Asian food ...and light cheese.

Wine of the Day: Enrico Gatti Franciacorta Brut DOCG, another wine enjoyed by the Wine Club
Sparkling wine is made in wine regions all around the world. Champagne is, of course, the gold standard but the quality of the wines from Franciacorta sure comes close.
Franciacorta is produced using the ‘traditional method’ – the same as for Champagne – with a secondary fermentation taking place in the bottle.
... Grape varieties that can be used are Chardonnay and Pinot Noir (also in Champagne), plus Pinot Blanc. The Gatti Franciacorta is 100% Chardonnay. Enjoy it before your meal or pair it with fish and white meat.

The Calgary Petroleum club is a fantastic venue with so much history! The staff is always great and the food fabulous!

My band Metrobeat has had the honour of performing there many times over the last 10 years.

If you have a corporate function or event planned and need a band, you can find Metrobeat on facebook or ask the staff at the club.

The Calgary Petroleum Club is wonderful; though it would not be as special without an amazing staff and phenomenal management team.

Thank you to the Calgary petroleum club for making my 18th birthday as special as i could wish for. The staff was amazing and food was to die for!! Loved every minute of it!

Pretty nice venue, exclusive to the industry, went to a couple PTAC. Forums. Good food. Informative topics,

One of the best venues for meetings and business meetings.

New renovation looks fantastic. So many great new events being hosted at the Club! A place the next generation of young business professionals will all be a part of.

Membership to the Petroleum Club has been a great experience thus far. Friendly members, great food (my fiancé is gluten and dairy free and doesn't like meat and Andre managed to make a meal she loved), reasonable drink prices, fun events, and friendly staff make it an enjoyable place to spend time. Highly recommend.

I have had the honour of working with the members of the CPC since 1990.

I have been attending the Club's Seafood Night for as far back as I can recall, and it always has been, and remains one of its best events. If you love seafood, it has an extensive buffet selection and gourmet delights!

Have been a member since the 80's and the Club attempts to stay progressive. That is important in a changing world, of course. I enjoyed the buffet last week as I had vegan options.

Great food and Great service. Now with the renovations coming up, it will be the premier private club in the city!!

Awesome place. My grandparents have been members for years and have been going ever since I was a baby. It's fun and always a blast when I am there. Great service and great food

An absolutely amazing place. The food is always great, the staff are always friendly and the atmosphere is wonderful.

We went to the PC for V Day, the ballroom is all very Sinatra, complete with jazz singer and folks who take dance lessons. Not a bad seat in the house and food was fabulous. The F&B manager, (?) David A, formerly with the Union Club made us feel right at home. Fabulous desserts, with attention to a GF diet, nice!
