“I often have friends who are not musicians say, ‘Can you put together a playlist for me of classical music? I’d love to explore it but I don’t know where to start.’ ” associate conductor, Karl Hirzer says. “So this program is very much ‘Karl’s Spotify playlist for orchestral music.’ ”

This week at the CPO: Associate Conductor Karl Hirzer shows you the full spectrum of what a live symphonic performance has to offer at Guide to the Orchestra on 21 September. #ThisWeek #CalgaryPhil http://calgaryphil.com/

Valentina Lisitsia controversy: A portion of tax payers dollars are going to support this racist and anti-semitic pianist's performance with the CPO? Really? Can we not expect more for our support of the Arts in Calgary???Valentina Lisitsia's expression of hatred toward Jews, Blacks, the disabled and others is outrageous and does not deserve protection of "freedom of speech" rights! Canadians, as well as Calgarians, should not tolerate such public expressions of hatred and intolerance as has been tweeted by Lisitsia. We don't support that kind of behaviour from our professional athletes, celebrities or politicians. Why is she performing in Calgary? Because the CPO and sponsors did not do their research, perhaps. Exceptional talent does not and should not excuse exceptionally offensive and just plain "bad behaviour". Toronto Symphony Orchesta had the guts to send the right message by cancelling her performance. Michael Buble got the message from social media...hopefully so will the CPO, the Calgary Herald, Nexen, and the rest of the sponsors. Is it too much to expect decent public behaviour from an artist?

User

Totally loved it....we were pleasantly surprised 👌🏼

User

The evening was a smashing hit. The vocalists, Patrick Thomas and Rachel Potter were a great team.

User

The Music of Abba Concert was fantastic. The orchestra is sensational. We can't wait to come back.

Orkestrayı 2015 yılı Aralık Ayında izledim Gerçekten muhteşemdi Ruhumu okşayan beynimi dinlendiren nağmeler çok güzeldi Sunuş şekli hem göze hemde kalbe hitabediyordu o zaman keşke tekrar izleyebilsem diye düşündüm ve diledim Belki birgün yine olur Neden Olmasın?.......

User

Marvellous performance of the Brahms Requiem - a work I know well from recordings but had never seen performed. Also nice to hear the Bartok first violin concerto - rarely performed, I think. Soloist, conductor and chorus were fantastic!

User

Love CPO, love the orchestra- outstanding performance all the time!

User

Last evening's performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 and Mozart's Requiem were, in a word, transcendent!

User

I was so privileged to attend the 2001 a space odyssey by Stanley Kubrick event at CPO the music was amazing!!!!

User

I am a huge supporter of the CPO and I am thrilled to be donating one of my original contemporary landscape paintings to this years Cork and Canvas fundraiser. It will be on display at the Winemakers Dinner for those who wish to bid!

User

Great space, great staff and for the most part, a great variety of shows. As well, the simple fact that CPO runs programs like "CPO Possibilities" for young people between the ages of 14-29 years is an excellent decision. The program offers affordable access to a variety of shows that many would not have checked out if not for this opportunity.

User

Great performance! I am not a classical music fan, but really enjoyed Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra at Ultimate Country Legends and The music of ABBA. Looking forward to more concerts like this!

User

Fun, festive night with our amazing orchestra! The vocalists were great! The wonderful music really got me into the spirit ÔøΩLove hearing #gavinhope sing.

User

Cirque musica a great show and beautiful music from the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Will definately go again.

User

An all around excellent experience. The pianist, particularly, was amazing to watch. I look forward to coming again soon!

User

Amazing performance by all! The four singers really pushed it over the top! Absolutely incredible! I love Disney and the Thanksgiving Disney show was more than I could have hoped for! Will definitely be going again in the future!

User

Always a treat to spend a night out with the CPO....looking forward to the season ahead.

User

Always a great time! Such a talented crew and we're lucky to have the CPO in our city :)

User

Always a great time at the symphony. The rush hour performances are some of my favorites as you can go for a leisurely dinner afterwards.

User

A performance that raised my heart beat and took my breath away!

User

It was a fantastic concert. The conductor was incredible at bringing the musicians together.

User

I went to the CPO's remembrance day tribute, Afghanistan: A requiem of a generation. As a veteran I loved the showed!! It was amazing and as my first-time to the CPO it was a great introduction to the orchestra. I will definitely be looking out for other shows the CPO puts on in the future.

User

Went to the David Bowie tribute the other day. As a disclaimer, what I heard from the cpo was great. My understanding on buying the tickets were that it would be cpo doing David Bowie which would have been fantastic as he has been gone by orchestra's many times before. As a huge Bowie fan the group that fronted were pretty good and the girl singer was fantastic. The biggest issue was having the whole band in the front of the stage. We were 10 row left right in front of the drummer. This drowned out everything. Thus my rating of 3

User

I was confused by the setting. I was expecting to see the CPO perform sound tracks from the movie. However, what happened was that the whole movie was shown. I bet most of the audience would forget that the CPO was playing at times. When the movie ended, many left ignoring the fact that they were still performing.

User

I expected to see the Calgary philharmonic orchestra play all the tunes from The movie, LaLa Land. However, I got to see the movie for the second time last night at The Jack Singer Concert Hall. While this is one of my favourite films, I went to hear the CPO and was subjected to the songs played throughout the movie on screen. I don't understand why there was a huge contingency of performers on stage as it appeared that they played very little at all. I expected a grand piano In The Centre of the stage and a pianist accompanying the orchestra. This was not so and I, along with my two other companions were very disappointed with the outcome. I'm being generous by rating this performance with 3 out of 5.

User

Very disappointed! This was our second year attending the father daughter ball. Last year the food was horrible and this year it was held at a new venue due to poor food. The deep fryer went down so needless to say my 3yr and 6yr never got to "eat dinner" they finally brought a plate of chicken fingers that weren't cooked at 8pm!

I spoke to Jessica as well as Clare on my feelings about this. I was told by Jessica that they weren't going to do anything for us as it was the venues problem. I was told the venue would mail out a $100 voucher but I have yet to see it. Just found out it was mailed May 6th and its the 21st and I had to follow up again.

This years father daughter ball was in April and I am still dealing with this.

It makes me sad when I know how much I paid and I feel as a customer I shouldn't have to chase the management down about a problem. I believe if you purchase tickets through CPO that they should rectify any problems and deal with them in a timely manner. Not brush it off cause it's the venues fryer that went down. I am not the venues client. I am a disappointed CPO customer who can't get a straight answer!!!
