"He was a good friend. But now he is gone." I Just Ate My Friend by Heidi McKinnon is a hilarious story about the search for friendship and belonging, and maybe a little bit about the importance of impulse control. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Books are made to be opened. Especially this one. But, guess what... Someone closed this book! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Please, Open This Book! by Adam Lehrhaupt puts power in the hands of the page-turner, and giggles into everyone! ๐Ÿ˜† Will you open the book and help this zany monkey crew trapped between the pages? http://bit.ly/2vx3QYf

Do you scroll down? Can it tweet? Does it need a password? It's A Book by Lane Smith is wickedly funny. ๐Ÿ˜† This tongue-in-cheek picture book about reading in the digital age features what is possibly the the best last line ever written in the history of children's literature. ๐Ÿ™Š http://bit.ly/2M6p0Ww

This week it's all about the books that make us laugh! ๐Ÿ˜† First up is 'I Want My Hat Back' by Jon Klassen. ๐Ÿป Told completely in dialogue, this delicious take on the classic repetitive tale plays out in sly illustrations laced with visual humour and winks at the reader with a wry irreverence that will have kids of all ages thrilled to be in on the joke. https://vimeo.com/63773718

Went for our first time today and had a great time. We were welcomed with happy and enthusiastic staff who made us feel right at home. We enjoyed exploring the house with its different themed rooms and were so happy to pick a new book to add to our collection. Can't wait to come again. Evelyn enjoyed herself, even if she was napping at first :)

We visited Calgary Reads in Inglewood this week-a great kick off to the Family day weekend here in Calgary. What a wonderful place. Both of my children came home and immediately set up their own special reading places in their rooms. Thank you!

User

The children's reading place is a must see experience for children. It's a really cozy and calming place, full of exciting spaces. What a wonderful place to inspire young readers!

So proud to work for an organization making such an impact on the children of Alberta. The ability to read successfully is fundamental to doing well in school and in life.

User

So many books at fantastic prices! This was our first time, and weโ€™ll definitely make a point of returning each year!

User

Love, love, LOVE!! We absolutely loved our visit to the Inglewood location. The staff volunteering there are so kindhearted and welcoming. The environment is rich with warmth and the inviting fun themes that will get any little reader excited and wanting more!! We will definitely be returning for another visit and spreading the word ๐Ÿ“š

It was truely special sitting with a small group of grades 1 and 2 yesterday - sharing a book. This Rundle Elementary School was selected for Calgary Reads Reading Rally - as at least 50% of students are not reading at Grade Level. (The ESL teacher told me there were at least 25 different languages spoken here.) Calgary Reads does a great job at getting volunteers from the Community to assist these late readers. My past client and childrens auther Gordon Perry read to all the students, and I was able to sponsor 100 books to give to the Grades 1 and 2's. Awesome in many many many way. YES - Calgary Reads!
