The visual and performing arts are integral to the enrichment of our community. Through creative expression our spirit can be strengthened and our community pride can become stronger. We can discover our own voice and we can gain confidence to express ourselves without consequence. We can find new ways to move through life and face every day challenges with a passionate eye and a compassionate soul.

The CALLING LAKE ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS (CLAFA) is committed to bringing artistic perspectives on how we see ourselves and the world around us. It allows us to ask questions about who we are, where we come from and what things motivate us. It will let us look at ourselves as individuals and learn what it means to understand ourselves. Our program opens new perspectives, visually and intellectually, exploring sound, sight, physicality and spirituality.

Our academy is committed to understanding our community’s rich aboriginal culture and integrating our artistic offerings with the stories and teachings of our local Cree people. CLAFA will collaborate with local elders and artists to share stories and skills brought down from generations. We will also reach out to other communities who may be able to bring new ideas to our community and enlighten our world view. This sharing of stories and ideals is the basis for all programs at our Academy. CLAFA is about sharing and learning, inspiring and teaching.

We recognize that our community is faced with many social challenges. We understand that success can be the key to confidence and strength. We want to focus our energy on the positive and build skills in our people that can battle this negativity . It is important we provide a nurturing place where students can find success that may not be academic or sports related. Although the importance of education and team sports are invaluable to our community, artistic success can be equally as rewarding. CLAFA is an incentive to saturate this ideal into the community and contribute to the already successful programming of the Calling Lake MD. We are excited to include you and your family into the rewarding and spiritually fulfilling world of the Visual and Performing arts.
