About Cambodian - Canadian Association Of Alberta
The Cambodian-Canadian Association of Alberta was founded in Calgary in September of 1982 through countless efforts and devotion by twelve founding members, who at the time made financial contributions of $100 each to see the Association come to fruition. September 1982 also marked the first Bun Pchoum Ben in Calgary and was held at a church in downtown Calgary, as at that time we did not have a temple yet. Mr. Kear Seoum was elected as the first President of the Association.
Throughout the years, the Association has held countless cultural festivities and activities, founded the Khmer Youth and Khmer Seniors Associations, organized and performed Khmer Dance and Music, assisted the Khmer-Canadian Buddhist Society of Calgary in sponsorship of monks, opened Khmer language school, and partnered with other cultural groups.
The Association also participated and supported the integration of newly arrived Cambodians into the community as well as connecting Cambodians in rural and surrounding areas.
