About Camp He Ho Ha
Camp HeHoHa exists to provide safe and rewarding recreational opportunities for children and adults with mental and physical disabilities.
Camp He Ho Ha Description
In the late 1950's, it was evident that there was a need for a recreational facility for people with disabilities. The Kiwanis Club of South Edmonton strongly supported the concept and spearheaded the project. A committee of Kiwanis members consisting of Bob Sewell, Dr. Ken Gordon, Walter Bates and Norm McBeth was formed to select a permanent site and to establish a camp especially suited to meet the needs of children with mental and physical disabilities.
In 1959, these committee members approached the Provincial Government with their project. It was approved in principle, and the Government directed them to a 107acre parcel of property located on Lake Isle that was accessible by boat only. This site was selected, and lease arrangements with the Department of Lands and Forests was drawn up.
A plan was developed to attract other groups that were involved in work with people with disabilities to join in the effort to achieve the goal of the Kiwanis Club. The Alberta Council consisted of representatives from the Kiwanis Club of South Edmonton, the Associated Canadian Travelers Club of Edmonton, the Diabetic Association, and the Edmonton Cerebral Palsy Association. These organizations contributed varying amounts of money to get the project started, and with donation of buildings from Imperial Oil Ltd. and the construction of a Medical Centre by Mr. & Mrs. Muttart, the Camp commenced operation in 1960.
The Camp became an instant success! Today Camp He Ho Ha provides recreational opportunities not only for children with disabilities, but also for adults of all ages with every type and degree of disabilities.
Camp He Ho Ha has emerged as a first-class facility providing first-class services. In the last 50 years, it has come a long way! It has grown from the old oilfield camp bunkhouses to a very modern facility consisting of 24 hotel-style rooms, 8 hostels, beautiful meeting rooms, and a wonderful dining room where delicious home-cooked meals are served. It boasts of an incredible wheelchair accessible indoor swimming pool, an 18 hole mini-golf course, a "state of the art" 3-sided 40 foot climbing wall, a high ropes course, a low wheelchair accessible ropes course, and much more.

Another Summer Camp season is coming to a close. These beautiful humans made an unforgettable summer experience happen for our amazing campers. These staff opened their hearts and loved every person that walked into their cabin from the moment they arrived. Their commitment to making a difference in the lives of others has been a gift to many this year.

Come out and stir up some excitement with Heal YEG! Good times to be had and help support a great cause 😉
Another beautiful day on the horizon for our 80 teens and children with mental disabilities. It’s all quiet for the time being (:
A new day has 83 excited adults with mental disabilities beginning their 6 day summer adventure at He Ho Ha! We are grateful for change and excited to make a difference in the lives of our campers this week.
Our summer staff got together yesterday to play some baseball and help with a carnival for the Challenger Baseball team of Spruce Grove. We had a blast and couldn’t have spent the day with a better group of people.
Families representing the World Financial Group of the South Edmonton Office joined us at Camp He Ho Ha yesterday for an afternoon of fun and adventure. This group has worked so hard at raising money in support of Camp He Ho Ha. This year their donation was an astonishing $43,713.75!
Yesterday we were lucky enough to have Kiwanis Club of Edmonton Oil Capital join us for a lunch and visit. They have been supporting Camp He Ho Ha for many years. A simple thank you is not enough to show our gratitude for their commitment to making a difference in our world!
#HealYEG brought some fun and love to Camp He Ho Ha today. As first time visitors to Camp, they so naturally became the extra fun for the day. Dunk tanks, water guns, arts & crafts, climbing wall, and barge rides. There was nothing that this group wouldn't do! Thank you #HealYEG for sharing your hearts with us today and becoming part of the He Ho Ha family.
Dr. Bob Steadward has made a major everlasting impact for individuals with disabilities. It was an honour to attend The Steadward Centre’s 40th Anniversary Gala with #JillDidow and Greg Christenson from #ChristensonGroupofCompanies.
Another blue bird day at Camp He Ho Ha as our friends arrive for another exciting week of camp!
Many thanks to our annual campaign donors for their financial gifts and inspiring camper messages.
Camp has been off to a very busy start! Our Seniors camp departed on May 27th but we couldn't resist sharing some of them with you. We miss them so much!
In just over 24 hours our 2018 summer camp season will be kicking off! Looking forward to our senior campers arriving.
So very grateful for the folks from Daytona Homes for volunteering their time to enhance our Camp community. We love you #DaytonaHomes!

One of the best place on earth and have been going for my 3r summer in a row 2 times in 2015, 1 time in 2016 and 1 time in 2017 but it is a OK kind of place to go to for 1 week during the summer but I wish the price for the camp didn't have to be that expensive every year but unfortunately this was my last year to go to camp sad to say
