Did you know today is #NationalIndigenousPeoplesDay? Pictured is our 2018 inductee, Wilton Littlechild, at our #InspireCanada Gala last Thursday!
He attended residential schools from 1951 to 1964, and played a wide variety of sports, including hockey, football, baseball and swimming. Committed to empowering others through sport, he also founded and coached the first all-Indigenous junior hockey team in Alberta. Wilton has worked with the United Nations to advocate for Indigenous sport, and the global Indigenous rights movement, and helped create the North American Indigenous Games in 1990 and the World Indigenous Nations Games in 2015.

To support Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame’s Girls in Sport initiative to encourage girls to get involved or stay involved in sport.
70% of girls quit sport by the age of 13. Proceeds from the #INSPIRECANADA Gala will be used to help create more awareness of this national issue by allowing us to engage girls to tell their stories of why sport is so important.

We are excited to announce Cheryl Bernard as our new President and CEO at Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame!
She has extensive experience in business and sport and has leveraged those experiences to become a corporate keynote speaker, sports ambassador and published author. Bernard also founded an elite curling team that went on to win the Silver medal at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
“What you learn from sport; integrity, work ethic and teamwork is what creates great individuals... in our society and in turn creates great communities and nations. If there was one message that I could get across to children, parents and the corporate world, it would be this; What you get by participating in sports is not as important as what you become”.
