Congratulations Erin Isfeld of CTV Edmonton, winner of the 2018 Schilly Award!
To qualify for this award, an individual, group or organization must have contributed significantly to recruitment or awareness of the need for blood, stem cells or organs and tissues.
Erin is an ambassador for the blood system and she has made incredible contributions to the Canadian blood system through her volunteer efforts and her role as a journalist/anchor with CTV Edmonton. Every October sin...ce 2010, Erin has spearheaded the CTV Giving Hope campaign, where viewers and employees are encouraged to give blood. Each week during the campaign, Erin and her crew produce a feature story that highlights an aspect of the blood system, such as cord blood, stem cells, and organs and tissues, told from the perspectives of donors, recipients and those in health care and research. As a result, the campaign has increased the number of blood donations and new donors in Edmonton. During the 2017 campaign, the number of blood donations in October increased by close to eight percentage points over the previous month, and the Edmonton area collection events saw a nine per cent increase in new donors.
Erin’s friend Holly is the motivation behind the campaign. Holly needed several units of blood to replace nearly one third of her lost blood volume following the birth of her daughter, Hope.
Erin actively advocates for blood donation on her social media channels throughout the year. She is a member of the Prairies Regional Liaison Committee, and an MC at regional events. She also organizes group donations for Bell Media employees each spring during the local Corporate Challenge Blood Drive.

"New research has found that enzymes from the human gut can be used to convert different blood types into type O so that it can be given to anyone.
Dana Devine, chief scientist at Canadian Blood Services, said she’s thrilled with the new research results, presented on Tuesday by UBC chemistry professor Stephen Withers."

Everyone! Please note for Donor Parking – It is underground access via 2nd Street SW. 🚗🚗🚗🚗
Enter parkade, go down the ramp and turn left. There are 20 designated spots for donors (Reserved 24 hours for Canadian Blood Services donors).
If those are full park anywhere underground, DO NOT PAY. Come up to the clinic and register your license plate at the clinic. Free parking is only available in the underground parkade. This is located within Eau Claire Market.

User

The nurses in the Platelets clinic are amazing. Donating blood is such an easy way to save a life.

Plus they have cookies. Really really good cookies.

User

The new location is great, free parking so no reason to worry finding a spot.

New equipment and set, looking forward to many more donations.

User

Super friendly staff. Super easy to book. Can't wait to see their new space in Eau Claire which opens in early May.

User

Really good Experience the staff were friendly. And very fast! Would go back again as soon as i am Ă©ligible to donate again

User

Online system/app has been improved and made booking much easier! The staff and volunteers are amazing, and have made it a pleasure every time!

User

I love coming to this clinic. They are so welcoming and I feel like they all appreciate and care about you as a volunteer. Their current facility is beautiful and very comfortable, easy to access off the c-train line if you don't drive and with lots of parking around if you do!

User

I got to spend an hour with Jessica, Lesley, and Nafiza at the Eau Claire centre this evening, and it was a total blast. I don’t know how you do it, Canadian Blood Services, but you have the BEST team! They are so happy, friendly, and fun, and they make donating blood a fantastic experience. I love it!

User

I go religiously to donate blood. I always make my next appointment. I feel refreshed after donating and mentally I feel great because I'm saving lives. All of the staff at Canadian Blood Services are wonderful. Thank you

User

First time at the new clinic in Eau Claire, free parking in the underground parkade (when you drive in go all the way to the back and turn left to find designated stalls). Clinic is on the second floor on the west side. It's in you to give!!

User

Even once a year it is worth to do a blood donation. I started donating about three years ago and always appreciate the professionalism and dedication of the people from CBS.

User

Canadian Blood Services provided a very easy, well informed and caring attitude towards all its incoming donors. I could not believe how easy it was and how misinformed I have been in the past.

I think that they only way you will ever know if you can donate is to go down to any of the clinics and find out by going through the process. It took no time at all and I find huge satisfaction in knowing that I could save someone's life. It was rewarding!

User

Always a good experience. Always GREAT staff.

Easy to do and it costs nothing to get that good feeling that you've helped some

User

Good staff.

New location next month with more parking available.

App makes apointments easy.

Online questionaire speeds up the process.

Its worth an hour of your time to potentially save a life.

User

Excited for new location in Eau Claire. Great staff at YYC-CBS keep the process Efficient yet fun! No cookies by George today :(

User

I enjoyed the staff and the computer questions are a huge time saver. my only complaint is their limited snacks for vegans.

User

Clinics are good. Great volunteers and nurses. Lives are saved. But ... frustrating and time consuming to book appointments. Online system is buggy, and problems and errors in the profile don't get fixed after repeated requests (and assurances that they will be taken care of). In the big picture, blood is collected and lives are saved (I hope). I wish that they would treat people a little bit better.
